Meet our Pain au Chocolat — the ultimate French indulgence right here in Manson, WA.

These beauties start with our house-made laminated dough. We tuck in high-quality dark chocolate batons, roll them up snugly, proof until perfectly puffed, then bake to golden perfection. The result? Crisp, buttery layers on the outside, warm melty chocolate inside —

Fun fact: Though it’s a beloved French classic, the pain au chocolat has Austrian roots. In the 1830s, Austrian baker August Zang opened Boulangerie Viennoise in Paris and introduced Parisians to Viennese-style pastries with chocolate fillings (an evolution of the schokoladencroissant). The French perfected it into the rectangular, laminated version we adore. In most of France (and here at VonHart), we call it pain au chocolat (“chocolate bread”). But in the southwest (around Bordeaux and Toulouse), it’s fiercely defended as chocolatine! No matter the name, it’s a morning must-have.

Pro tip… come early while they are still warm from the oven and dip one in your latte. It’s a great start to your day. 💛
