🚧 We're proud to kick off our 4th consecutive year participating in OSHA's Safe + Sound Week! 🚧

This upcoming Monday, we'll proudly kick off our 4th consecutive year participating in OSHA's Safe + Sound Week with the signing of our Safe + Sound Week banner, a visible commitment to keeping safety at the forefront of everything we do.

Throughout the week, we'll be re-energizing our employee-led Safety Committee, recruiting new committee members, and strengthening the connection between our safety leaders and the workforce. Together, we'll continue focusing on what matters most, identifying hazards, preventing injuries, and creating a safer workplace for everyone.

We'll also be sharing daily updates highlighting our activities, employee participation, and the collaborative efforts that make our safety culture stronger every day. At Urban Farmer, we believe the strongest safety programs are built with employees, not just for employees. We look forward to another successful Safe + Sound Week and thank our entire team for their continued commitment to looking out for one another.

🎆🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July from all of us at Urban Farmer! 🇺🇸🎆

Today, we celebrate the freedoms we enjoy, the communities we serve, and the hardworking people who make a difference every day. We hope you have a fun, relaxing, and memorable Independence Day with your family and friends!

As you celebrate, remember to keep safety at the top of your menu:

🎇 Leave fireworks to the professionals whenever possible.
🔥 Keep grills away from buildings, trees, and anything flammable.
🌭 Cook food to safe temperatures and keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold.
🧊 Don’t leave perishable foods out for more than 2 hours (or 1 hour if it’s over 90°F).
💧 Stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade.
👀 Keep a close eye on children and pets, especially around fireworks and grills.
🚗 If you’re traveling, buckle up, avoid distractions, and never drive impaired.

Honoring Juneteenth: Freedom, History, and Progress

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, the oldest nationally recognized commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States.
While the Emancipation Proclamation was issued on January 1, 1863, freedom did not immediately reach all enslaved people. Due to the ongoing Civil War and limited enforcement in Confederate states, many remained enslaved for more than two years afterward.

On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that enslaved people were free. This day became known as Juneteenth, combining the words "June" and "nineteenth." It represents not only the end of slavery for the last enslaved Americans, but also a powerful symbol of hope, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021, recognizing the importance of remembering our nation's history and honoring the generations who fought for freedom and civil rights.

At Urban Farmer, we recognize that our strength comes from the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives of our team members. Today, we celebrate freedom, reflect on our shared history, and reaffirm our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone is treated with dignity, respect, and opportunity.
As members of the Kankakee County community, we're proud to see local organizations continue the tradition of honoring Juneteenth through community celebrations that bring people together for education, culture, food, music, and fellowship. This year's Juneteenth Celebration in Kankakee County includes a community festival featuring local vendors, games, food trucks, and fireworks, providing an opportunity for families and neighbors to celebrate freedom and community together.

🌎🛡️ On June 5th, our Urban Farmer team came together to celebrate World Food Safety Day with a day full of learning, engagement, and a little friendly competition!
Employees signed our World Food Safety Day banner, shared what food safety means to them, enjoyed quarterly birthday cake celebrations, put their handwashing skills to the test with our GloGerm blacklight activity, and searched high and low during our food allergen scavenger hunt for a chance to win some fun swag.
There were plenty of laughs, a few surprises under the blacklight, and lots of great conversations about the role each of us plays in keeping food safety at the center of everything we do.
A huge thank you to our team for their commitment to producing safe, high-quality products every day. Food safety isn't just a department—it's everyone's responsibility, and we're proud of the culture our team continues to build.

🌿💚 A Look Back at Wellness Month for May 2026 at Urban Farmer! 💚🌿

We know it's already June, but Wellness Month was too impactful not to share! Throughout May, our team focused on building healthier habits, supporting one another, and taking advantage of resources designed to improve overall well-being.
Over the course of the month, we highlighted four important areas of wellness:
❤️ Motherhood & Mindfulness – We celebrated the incredible mothers in our UF family while promoting self-care, mindfulness, and community support.
💰 Financial Wellness – Employees had opportunities to learn about benefits, financial resources, childcare assistance, banking services, and programs designed to support their financial goals.
🧠 Mental Health Day – We shared valuable resources and information focused on mental health awareness, employee assistance programs, counseling resources, and overall emotional well-being.
☀️ Physical Health & Be Outside Day – We wrapped up Wellness Month by encouraging our team to get outside, stay active, and focus on healthy habits. Team members enjoyed:
🌱 Seed packet giveaways to inspire gardening and outdoor activity
🍎 Healthy fruit snacks and wellness reminders
💧 Hydration awareness messaging throughout the facility
♻️ Recycling program announcements and sustainability education
🤝 A visit from Athletico Physical Therapy, who shared information and resources to help employees stay healthy and injury-free

And one of our favorite additions..... 🪑🌳
We installed a new outdoor picnic bench area for employees to enjoy during breaks and lunches! Whether it's taking a few minutes to enjoy fresh air, connect with coworkers, or simply recharge, we hope this new space encourages our team to step outside and prioritize their well-being.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated, helped organize events, and supported Wellness Month. While May may be over, our commitment to employee wellness continues all year long.

At Urban Farmer, we believe New Hire Orientation is about so much more than paperwork and videos — it’s about making people feel welcomed, supported, and safe from day one. ❤️🍕

As part of orientation, we love bringing our new team members together over a nice lunch break while they complete training focused on food safety, workplace safety, and overall well-being. Safety is one of our top priorities because we want every employee to leave work the same way they came in.

What makes this even more special is that our training goes beyond the workplace. We focus on sharing safety practices and knowledge that can also be useful at home and in everyday life because caring for our people does not stop at the facility doors.

We also encourage many of our leadership team members to join orientation to introduce themselves, connect with new employees, and help create familiarity from the very beginning. We want our team to know they have resources, support, and people they can turn to across the entire facility-regardless of department.

Building a strong culture starts on Day One, and we are proud of the environment we continue to create together at Urban Farmer. 🙌
