Every so often I rub shoulders with other growers and the question usually comes up, what’s my favorite flower to grow? Which is a very different question than what’s my favorite flower. My answer to both has a little bit of overlap, because my favorite flowers to grow are bulbs! As a grower, I love the crops that are low effort high impact. Of course we can’t have spring without our bulb crops: tulips, daffs, hyacinth, allium, etc. But for late summer, I absolutely adore gladiolus. They are available in just about every color and they can be either the star of the show or the supporting role. They can be big and dramatic, or soft and romantic. I am trying my darnedest to give them the love they deserve.
What’s your opinion on gladiolus?
