Have you ever eaten the beautiful Zephyr summer squash?

These uniquely colored half yellow and half green colored squash boast a nutty sweet flavor and a fine tender texture that keep us coming back for more, and it’s definitely going to be on the list to grow again for 2027! 🌱🌱🌱

These beauties are similar to a crookneck squash without the seedy large bulbous part that can sometimes develop in crooknecks.

Our field of winter squash is green and lush right now, full of buzzing bees busily pollinating each flower for us. 🌼

What a blessing the bees are! 🐝

Without them we wouldn’t have any of the wonderful squash we enjoy year after year. To give thanks we planted pollinator plants like buckwheat and flowers at the end of each row to give our bee friends another sweet reason to visit our farm! 🌼 🐝 🌼 🐝 🙏

These are some really cool French red shallots I planted last fall and I was hoping to collect seed from to grow next year but they didn’t set seed for some reason, very strange. Maybe not enough pollinators? I don’t know what happened. So it goes in farming! Plan B is that I’m going to cure the bulbs and plant them this fall.

“There’s always next year” is my favorite farming saying!

I’m always impressed by how volunteer plants are so healthy!

This zucchini squash popped up at the end of my luffa gourd row and I thought I’d let it stay and see what it would do. And it’s been producing the loveliest half-sized zucchinis all summer long, cute little stubby light green fruit, they’re so cute!

And look at how healthy it is, I’m so glad I didn’t yank it!

The watermelons are quietly getting bigger by the day! Last fall I decided to open up the east side of my garden for more growing space by taking out a huge live oak tree. 🌳

It was a hard decision but I’m sure glad I did it because this field is now home to some beautiful cantaloupes, watermelons and winter squash. 🍉

Making tough decisions in life and changing direction is sometimes the best path forward.
