Good morning, Chicken Friends! Well, Dottie went to chicken heaven last night so we are down to 2 girls - Jenna and Black & Tan. I'm looking for a home for them as 2 is not a good flock size for their social needs. I have already reached out to someone who has been kind enough to take chickens from me in the past. In other news, hubby cleaned out the Chicken Bus yesterday and we will list it to sell soon. It is the end of our chicken keeping era (for now) and I'm a little sad. I like when the chickens follow me or come to the front deck in the morning for bread. But I know they had the best life and got to free range, were treated more like pets, and lived their natural lives until they passed. For those who want to follow me elsewhere, my other page is Red Gate Farm. Thanks for all the comments over the years, it's been quite a run!!

These are the 3 remaining girls. The first 2 pics are of Black and Tan (left side) and Jenna, and the other is Dottie. They are exploring and enjoying the spring weather, but we haven't gotten an egg in a few weeks. I believe that Black and Tan was laying in March, but I haven't seen an egg since then. The nice days of spring and summer are ahead for them, and all of us! Cluck Cluck Chicken Bus!!

Happy Spring, Chicken Bus Friends! 🐔🚌
I wanted to give an update about the girls. As you may remember, back in November of 2019 we had 58!!! chickens, which is partially what prompted our need to find a big space quickly to house them. My husband and I combined our flocks, and his girls were already a few years old. Now we are down to 3 girls, with Blondie passing away yesterday. We've got Dottie, Jenna, and Black & Tan left, and I will keep them through the summer if they live that long. If we lose one more, I may appeal to someone to take the last 2 girls so that they are part of a flock. Once they are gone, I will take a break from chicken keeping. We hope to sell the Chicken Bus this spring or summer and I will be focused more on my gardens. I have loved sharing my Chicken Bus adventure with everyone, thank you for having that fun with me!! All my best, Andria

Good afternoon Chicken Bus Friends! I have been trying to stay off of Facebook, but since it's horrible outside and I had something fun to post, I figured I'd post something about the chickens.
You may or may not remember but we are down to 6 girls; Ruth, Blondie, Black and Tan, Lucy, Jenna, and Dottie. We have frigid weather here in Northern MI with winds that make it just about unbearable outside. SO, I just mixed up some oatmeal, sweet corn, agave, chicken vitamin booster, apple cider vinegar, oregano, ginger, and cinnamon and brought it to the girls while it was warm. Yes, I walked to the chicken pen carrying a cookie sheet with 2 pans on it in my oven mitts. I hope you are all well and off to a wonderful 2025!! Be safe and warm, and never forget: Cluck, cluck, Chicken Bus!!!

A short video with the remaining 6 girls.....

Good morning Chicken Friends! Fall is here and the girls are scratching around after the rain and loving it!! We're down to only 6 girls, which is so hard to believe, considering that 5 years ago we had 58!!! The remaining girls are: Blondie, Black & Tan, Ruth, Dottie, Jenna, and Lucy. These were all the chickens that my husband brought to the combined flock, so we are guessing they are over 7 years old. They have about the best life a chicken could, they free range, get food scraps, non GMO feed and chicken scratch, and come and go as they please. We are letting them pass naturally and after that will take a break from keeping chickens. That's the update - when I'm outside later I will snap a few pics and update this post. Hope all are well and enjoying the break in the heat!! Cluck cluck Chicken Bus!! 🐔🚌

Why the Chicken Bus?

The Chicken Bus was created as a quick means to house 2 flocks of chickens after an early winter storm dumped 30” of snow before we had built a new winter coop. It was done over the course of a few weekends, and there are 36 chickens and 1 rooster living in the 7 1/2’ x 30’ converted school bus.
