August was a VERY busy month here at Elk Run Farm. We sent Joy off to new adventures in Chicago, said farewell to our 2026 Summer Interns, and filled 2 new roles at the farm. With this new evolution of the Elk Run Team it’s time to introduce you to a fresh face, as well as announce a new team member who you all may recognize. Join us in welcoming Katey Pirot, our new Community Engagement Coordinator, as well as congratulate Noah Tomasello, our new Farm Field Assistant!
A bit about Katey Pirot – Community Engagement Coordinator
Katey brings a background in public service and non-profit management, with a passion for community connection. While partnerships, coordination, and fundraising may be her expertise, she loves being outside, getting her hands in the dirt, and watching the native pollinators buzz and scurry around the farm. As the Community Engagement Coordinator, Katey is excited about providing the communications, promotion, and outreach needed to support Elk Run Farm’s programs, especially those that connect younger generations to sustainable farming practices. Outside of work, Katey is a graduate student who really enjoys research, a dog parent to a dachshund and an Australian shepherd, and a specialty coffee enthusiast.
Former Summer Intern turned Farm Field Assistant – Noah Tomasello
As a three year repeat intern (beginning after his Sophomore year of high school through till graduation this last June), Noah is very excited to begin working as our Farm Field Assistant. He has proven his aptitude for farming and was eager to apply as soon as the internship concluded. His experience has given him a better and deeper understanding of how plants grow and their necessities, so much so that he started his own home garden. In his own words, “Elk Run Farm is like a home to me. It has been an honor to advocate for the farm in school and finally being able to work here as an employee! I’m very excited to work with volunteers, the farm workers, future interns, and plant science students. I’ve provided a fun environment with my fellow intern buddies and want to continue that into the years coming!”
