Five Sisters Farm

Five Sisters Farm Five Sisters Farm is a nearly organic (we're not certified) vegetable farm and growing education center. The name comes in honor of her father.

We grow a range of summer and fall vegetables to nourish your body. We also teach the novice gardener, to be an active gardener! Five Sisters Farm grew from a lifetime commitment to gardening and the natural environment. Jean Rightmire has been involved in gardening, from vegetables and fruits to flowers, since she was a child growing up in Ithaca, NY. She is one of 5 daughters (two sons) and her

father always dreamed of a publishing house called 5 sisters publishing. This, in addition to Mrs. Rightmire being a published freelance and contributing writer to national publications, is a way to honor her deceased father's memory. Through her father's and especially her mother's lessons of hard work, growing your own food and using the earth's finite resources wisely, she along with her sisters have a deep appreciation of putting seed to dirt and nurturing the growth of any plant. Located in a very bucolic setting on the Rightmire's horse farm-Classic Sport Horses LLC/Classic Show Stables and Flying Changes Therapeutic Riding program, outside of Marathon, NY, our goal is not to become some large commercial organic operation but rather to provide food for their own family, their friends and to have a small vegetable and fruit stand at the edge of their farm. Most importantly it is also to be an education center for those who want to 'get their hands dirty' but did not know how to start. A garden can be as small as a tea cup and as large as 1,000 acres. Most of us are somewhere in between. Through our low-key approaches to teaching we strive to teach those interested parties how to start, grow and harvest even a portion of their food. Even apartment/city dwellers can grow vegetables! In addition to the horses, which supply the manure for the gardens, the farm also has 3 chickens, a disabled Pekin duck, very friendly barn cats and three stupid and harmless farm dogs. We teach by appointment only and we work our sessions as to your needs/interests and availability. We plan to expand our offerings, both in classes and fruits/vegetables each year. We are always open to suggestions. As the farm grows so will our Facebook and Internet presence.
