The Crockpot Supper Club 🍂 Swedish Cabbage Soup with Lamb & Root Vegetables

Some recipes ask us to look backward before we bring them forward.

Inspired by Mable Hoffman’s Crockery Cookery, this old-fashioned Swedish cabbage soup slowly simmers lamb with leeks, carrots, parsnips, potatoes, herbs, and whole allspice—one small ingredient that gives the broth the loveliest warm, autumn character.

Everything cooks low and slow while you’re away. When you get home, the tender lamb is returned to the pot and fresh cabbage goes in for the final half hour, keeping just enough texture and character.

It’s simple, substantial, wonderfully old-fashioned—and exactly the sort of supper October calls for. 🍲🍂

Swedish Cabbage Soup with Lamb & Root Vegetables is Recipe #3 of our October Crockpot Supper Club.

🥬 LOW for 7–9 hours
🏡 Finish for 25–30 minutes
🍞 Serve with thick slices of buttered rye or crusty country bread

Home is made in such quiet ways.

A pot left simmering on the stove. Bread sliced on the kitchen table. A towel folded over the oven door. The window cracked open to let in the cool autumn air. 🍂

And perhaps one of the simplest expressions of love:

“Have you eaten?”

“Home is often made quietly—in simmering pots, folded linens, open windows, and someone asking if you’ve eaten.”

We spend so much time thinking of home as a place that sometimes we forget it can also be a thousand small acts of care.

A meal made. A chair pulled out. A light left on.

Someone making sure there is a place for you. 🤎🕯️

Old-Fashioned Beef Stroganoff, Crockpot Supper Club

There's something so comforting about coming home to the smell of dinner already made. This slow-cooked stroganoff is rich, savory, and just right for a chilly October evening.
Spoon it over warm egg noodles and gather everyone to the table.
