The New York State Fair is going on now through Labor Day! Make sure you stop down and see the Mobile Dairy Experience, and buy some great dairy products at the NYAAC exhibit! You can also visit with and pet the two 9 month old heifers, Lainey and Dolly that are there!

We don’t just have cows, we have cheese, too! Thank you Collins Farm and Creamery for the delicious cheese curds that fairgoers are enjoying this week. Lots of flavors so come get yours during your visit to The Great New York State Fair! We are located at the corner of Broadway & Belle Aisle, behind the Expo Center!

Here is an update regarding the new Chobani plant in Rome. It’s pretty extraordinary for our area. Job opportunities will be great and community support from Chobani will also be great. It will not affect milk prices as that is not determined by supply and demand. There are other companies in the northeast dairy industry area that are also expanding so the future market for milk is very bright. The milk pricing aspect is just very complicated and government manipulated along with other factors. With less agricultural land available, especially in our area, some farmers will be able to expand to meet demand but others cannot or will choose not to.

Animals are important to our food supply, but they are also important in our everyday life. Many, many products are produced with the help of animal by-products. One thing people might not know is that most cell phones (parts and screens) are a product of animal by-products.

Great 4H youth and adult projects on display in the youth building! A fun area and Tibbitts Maple under the grandstand! Great food options and new rides! Guaranteed a fun day!

It was a pleasure to present a plaque to long time Sentinel photographer John Clifford at the Fair today. We are grateful for his support and dedication highlighting agriculture in Oneida County! He has created countless memories for many Fair families taking pictures and putting them in the newspaper and online. He is always making sure agriculture is included. Thank you, John! Enjoy your retirement! You will be missed!
