We are located in rural Genoa (between Hampshire, Genoa and Marengo) - and only a little over an hour from Chicago. This self-serve stand is owned by 2 families - 5 cousins ranging in age from 10 to 19 run this stand. It's a great place to bring the family for an outing in the country - you'll get the full farm experience, without having to pay a single fee except for the product you are purchasin
g. There is no admission fee- we charge a flat fee per pumpkin, not by the pound. You can take a walk in our patch to find your 'Perfect Pumpkin', or get one already picked from the stand - with over 60 different varieties of pumpkins and gourds you will definitely find what you're looking for! Bring your camera to take pictures by our antique tractors and wagon or in front of our 'Giant Pumpkin'. Sam, our blue-eyed miniature goat is a visitor favorite! History of the Pumpkin Farm
In 2004, 9 years old Travis repeatedly asked his family if there was a way he could work to make money. His parents were against giving an allowance saying that doing work around our home was expected for every member of the family. Coincidentally, the kids Grandfather (who they call Papa) had an idea of a way to teach his grandkids responsibility, and also make money at the same time. Being a retired grain farmer, he had land he said he could rent to the youngsters to grow and sell pumpkins. This was the beginning of The Pumpkin Place. Where Does The Profit Go? Our family believes in giving back to the community and others. Every year we donate a percentage of our profit, as well as pumpkins, to local non-profit organizations, pre-schools, churches, and other community groups. The rest of the money we make is put directly into a fund for college. At the end of every growing season we celebrate with an end-of-harvest party. This is a way for us to thank the grown-ups who help us every year (parents, grandparents, aunt, uncle). Each of us also research our favorite charity to decide what donations we are going to make for the year. It is a great feeling to not only make money but to be able to give-back as well.
