This week, training focused on food preparation, and the students did an amazing job. We were especially impressed with their skill level while slicing tomatoes and preparing pins. The students were confident and comfortable handling these tasks, demonstrating excellent progress and attention to safety.

In between hands-on training, we continued to build math fluency, as this is an essential skill across most industries. Students remained engaged and showed steady improvement in their problem-solving abilities.

We also spent a day learning about managing stress in the workplace and handling difficult customers. Students participated well and learned effective techniques and professional phrases to use in challenging situations. They also practiced strategies for staying calm, maintaining professionalism, and keeping conversations safe and respectful.

An Exciting Update—and a New Challenge!

First, thank you to everyone who has shared our recent post and expressed concern for our students. Your support means so much.

We are incredibly blessed to announce that a longtime supporter has stepped forward with an extraordinary gift of $32,500 toward our project to install air conditioning and a new hood ventilation system in our grill training area.

This generous donor has one request: that we match his gift as quickly as possible so we can move forward immediately with the project and finally address the dangerous heat conditions in the Shack.
As many of you know, this isn't simply about comfort.

This summer, we've experienced four heat-related medical emergencies, and many of our students have struggled to complete even an hour of training because of the excessive heat. Our students deserve a safe environment where they can focus on learning, building confidence, and developing the skills that prepare them for the future.

Now we need our community's help to raise the remaining $32,500. Whether it's one major donor, several businesses, or many individuals giving what they can, every contribution brings us one step closer to making this project a reality.

Our H.O.P.E. family needs your help.

We are reaching out to our community in hopes that someone can connect us with an individual, foundation, grant opportunity, or organization that may be willing to help us raise $65,000 for a desperately needed hood ventilation system and air conditioning at the Other Lucy Beach Grille run by H.O.P.E.

This is our first year of advanced training, and our students are working harder than ever to develop the skills they need for meaningful employment.

Unfortunately, the extreme heat inside our training kitchen is creating a serious barrier. Many of our students are experiencing heat exhaustion within the first hour of training, making it increasingly difficult for individuals with disabilities to gain the hands-on experience and vocational skills they deserve.

Our mission is to provide meaningful vocational training and opportunities that empower every student to reach their full potential. But to continue doing that safely and effectively, we must solve this problem.

If you know of a philanthropist, grant program, foundation, corporate partner, or anyone who might be interested in helping make this project possible, we would be incredibly grateful for an introduction or recommendation.

We are officially in week three of our six-week training program, and it has been amazing to watch our students grow!

Our students are motivated, excited, and learning so many valuable skills. Through a variety of hands-on activities, they have been strengthening their math skills and learning our menu so they can accurately and confidently take customer orders.

They have also learned how to operate the ice cream machine, serve water ice, and work directly with our customers. This real-time experience is helping them develop strong customer service, communication, and workplace skills.

We are so proud of their progress and can't wait to see how much more they accomplish over the next three weeks!
