Hello, everyone! September is starting this week! This is one of the most magical months of the year! The birthstone is the beautiful Sapphire,and there are two birth flowers: the aster and morning glory (Oh, my, don’t mention morning glory to Jim or me! That is one flower that just plain takes over and will never die!!). More babies that are born in September and other fall months have a statistically higher chance of living to 100, and more songs have been written with September in its lyrics than any other month of the year.

There are so many hot air balloon windsocks with adorable patterns like pumpkins, sunflowers, autumn leaves, jack-o-lanterns, and bats. These make the perfect addition to your fall decor. There are also many types of yard art: scarecrows, windmills, pumpkins, barns, jack-o-lanterns, etc. You will love them all so much, you will have a hard time choosing!

Apple season in Ohio has begun!!! The first varieties will be arriving Saturday morning: Gala, Ginger Gold, Honeycrisp, Paula Red, and Ohio Bartlett Pears! My mouth started to water just typing out these delicious fruits! Priced at $1.99 lb., $2.69 lb. for Honeycrisp, and $2.19 lb. for the pears!

We have been adding all the apple, pumpkin, and fall goodies we have waited a year to enjoy again!

First and foremost, give some a round of applause for the star of Fall…..APPLE CIDER! We have Walnut Creek’s sweet and tart apple cider in the coolers. We have gallons, half gallons, and pints!

Wayward Hill Farms has just added Creamed Honey to their line of delicious local honey products. Creamed honey has the texture of peanut butter and butter. It spreads easily and is not as sticky as regular honey. This is definitely one to try!

Hello! Well, schools in the area are in full swing! I have the nicest group of students this year, and I am looking forward to a wonderful year! A new school year is a great new beginning for the teachers and students and teaching high school is such a fun way to see kids grow over the years! Friday Night Lights started last night with many area teams facing off for their first game of the season. Isn’t this time of year just the best?

What about THE Turner Hill? He’s been called the “Toast of the Town” and a “Hometown Hero”, and he is for sure! Turner has been called up to play for the San Francisco Giants, and it is so exciting. Many of the teachers at MHS had the pleasure of teaching him, and he was Jim’s student for an Excel class several years ago at Marietta College. Everyone says he is just a great young man! He had many family members and friends see his debut in San Francisco, and lots of folks from Marietta headed up to Cleveland to watch him play against The Guardians. He will be playing in a couple weeks in Pittsburgh as well!

Hello, everyone! Hope you had a great week! After all these storms and downpours, I think we are all ready for some sunshine and clear skies! Looks like this week’s weather forecast is half stormy/half sunny. I need it to dry out, so the yard can get mowed 😉

We have some canning tomatoes for $15 a box. If you are ready to make your yearly spaghetti sauce, tomato paste, tomato juice, or whole tomatoes, stop in and see us! These will probably go fast, so you may want to call in and save a box or order some. We will definitely be getting more.

We decided to try some Bagel Chips in the market. We have Everything and Plain. We got some jars of Walnut Creek Spinach Dip to go with it! What a yummy snack!

We are now going to start baking Rye bread! Grab a loaf, and have us slice you up some Swiss cheese and Corned Beef for a yummy sandwich you can make at home!

Wanting local and Amish dairy products? We have the heavenly Florence creamery milk. Many of our customers have a standing order with us every week. If you would like to do that too, just let us know. From Amish country, we have rolls of butter, French Onion dip, Sour Cream, Ricotta cheese, Cottage cheese, shredded cheeses, and string cheese. My family uses these products weekly, and they are all delicious!

And don’t forget our local chicken eggs. We have eggs that come from right up the road at the Fagan Farm and from Hartline’s Hens. Once you have farm fresh brown eggs, it’s hard to go back to store bought. Feeling adventurous? Try some duck eggs! They taste the same but are a little bigger.

We love our small businesses! They are wonderful, and I know they are so appreciative of your faithfulness and support! Here’s what is new with all of them!

Who doesn’t love the smell of Vanilla? Cornerstone Homestead has Warm Vanilla Oatmeal sugar scrubs, hand soaps, and shampoo bars. These are made with goat milk and smell divine!

Forever Caroline has a line of little love note cards. These would be perfect to pack a little note to your child in their lunch box. There are all sorts of different ones that have artwork from regional Appalachian artists. She also has bookmarks, sticky notes, note pads, greeting cards, etc. Check them out!

The Potter’s Hand has some adorable clay earrings. She is always creating something fresh and new. The posts are sensitive and ear friendly!

The Crooked Needle has all kinds of handmade creations from pin cushions, soup bowl holders, pillows, etc. She has made the most adorable American flag t-shirt as well! Carissa is so talented and creative!

Newsletter #181: August 8-14

Hello to our wonderful customers and readers! Hope you all have been enjoying the beautiful, sunny, summer days. It has been a busy time for us! Tennis season has started for Audrey, Cam is getting ready to head back to OSU for his Junior year, Seth has healed up from a broken wrist and is recovering from getting all his wisdom teeth out, and Sydney can’t wait for school to start. Whew!

If you are looking to get outside this weekend, Marietta is holding the 16th Annual Rivers, Trails, and Ales Festival down at Muskingum Park. There are lots of activities planned through Sunday evening! There is also the Belpre Homecoming and Henderson Hall is having their annual Antiques and Boutiques Market with lots of antique and vintage vendors! Stop in for a sandwich on your way to one of these great festivities!

Next, Wednesday and Thursday (August 12-13) look to the night sky for the Perseid Meteor Shower Peak where you can expect to see 50-100 shooting stars per hour due to the favorable moon phase.

With the abundance of homegrown green peppers, stuffed peppers are definitely on my supper list for this week! Huck’s has diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, or tomato soup as the topping. No matter what your recipe calls for, we’ve got you covered!

Last night, we had turkey club sandwiches using our sub buns cut in half, topped with our homegrown tomatoes, lettuce, Lacey Baby Swiss cheese, and Walnut Creek Applewood Smoked. We buttered up Huck’s homegrown sweet corn as well. It was the perfect summer night meal!

Huck’s was so happy to have been voted the 2nd place finalist for Crafts in the Reader’s Choice Awards sponsored by The Marietta Times! We want to give credit where credit is due….that win is really Charlie and the girls at Dad’s Primitives’ win, because they do such a wonderful job of finding the cutest craft items for us to sell. A big thanks to them and congratulations!

Looking for a little appetizer or a great snack? Get a jar of Amish Wedding Hot Pepper Jelly, pour it over top of some cream cheese, and eat or serve it with some crackers.

Our yogurt covered pretzels are a hit! Try the mini pretzel version with the vanilla yogurt. They are so good!

Grab a large container of Strawberry or Raspberry All Natural Yogurt. This tangy yogurt is the best around! It’s not as sweet as the typical name brand yogurts which tells you it is better for you!

We have some Birthday Cake and Buckeye Haney’s Kettle Corn. Yum! We all need to try these flavors! And at $3.99 each, we can buy both!
