Newsletter #189: October 10th-16th

Hello! We have had the most glorious weather…. warm, sunny days with chilly nights. Aren’t you so glad that we live in an area with all the seasons? Enjoy Saturday if you are wanting to get outside, because Saturday night the Ohio Valley will get the remnants of Hurricane Isaias that hit Alabama on Friday night.

Looking for a fall foliage drive this weekend? The 37th annual Little Muskingum Watershed Fall Foliage Tour takes place this weekend. This tour heads north out Route 26 with 7 stops along the way. It begins at the Washington County Home and continues to Hidden Hills Orchard and winds around until the final stop at Little Muskingum Watershed Association. Stop #6 is the Rinard Mills covered bridge. The bridge was built in 1876 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. It was destroyed by a flash flood in 2004 and was rebuilt 20 years ago. My dad’s mother’s name was Mary Marie Rinard Hall, and she grew up out at Rinard Mills. I have great memories of Sunday drives out that way as a girl. Grab a Huck’s sandwich and a glass bottle of old-fashioned pop and head out for a relaxing day on this self-guided tour!

The Goellers are heading up to OSU for Family Weekend with our oldest son, Cameron. We are going to watch the Buckeyes play Maryland. It should be a fun family day!

EVENT!! Huck’s is having our 5th annual Halloween Fun Day! Kids: join my girls, Audrey and Sydney, and me on the side porch for an afternoon of slime, decorating cookies, coloring, dancing, and playing games! The time is 2:00-5:00 p.m. on October 31st! We will have activities both younger and older kids would like. Parents are always looking for a little something to do on Halloween afternoon before Trick-or-Treat, so let them hang with us for a little bit!

POINSETTIA ORDERS! Huck’s is offering a beautiful array of poinsettias this year for your home, business, church, etc. These will be delivered around the week after Thanksgiving. Here are the sizes and the colors:

The kids had a great time at Homecoming! Seth was voted Homecoming King, and everyone enjoyed the dance! I added a picture of the kids and one of the Huck’s employees (Ellery, Audrey, and Seth) saying, “We love Huck’s!”

Newsletter #188: October 3rd-9th

Hello! One of the most glorious months of the year is here….October!

Tonight is the Homecoming dance for many area students! We hope anyone attending has a fun and safe night while dancing the night away with their friends and classmates!

It’s great to be a Marietta Tiger! The Fall sports teams are doing a great job! The early sports are starting to finish up, and here is their progress so far this season! The Girls Golf Team finished 2nd at Districts after a record breaking season! They will go down in history as the best Girls Golf Team at MHS! The Boys Golf Team is headed to the state tournament in another week after winning Districts! This is the first time in 40 years! All seven girls on the Tennis Team made it to Districts. This is the first time in Coach Mayer’s coaching career that his entire team has made it this far! Our oldest daughter, Audrey, and her partner Maya won the Sectionals tournament in doubles! The tennis team plays on Monday at Ohio University!

Did you know the Humane Society of the Mid-Ohio Valley in Marietta is really in need of donations. Here are the items that they need: Clorox bleach, dryer sheets, laundry detergent, kitchen sponges, nitrile gloves, Purina Dog Chow, Purina Puppy Chow, Purina One Chicken and Rice Formula, Purina One Healthy Puppy, Purina One Vibrant Maturity, Pedigree Chopped Ground Dinner Canned Dog Food, Purina Cat Chow, Purina Kitten Chow, Friskies Paté Canned Cat Food, Purina One Plus Indoor Advantage Cat Food, Non-Clumping Litter. Gala: This apple is a cross between a Golden Delicious and a Kidd’s Orange Red apple. This apple originated in New Zealand and was introduced to the U.S. in 1970. It is now the most popular apple in the world.
Gingergold: This apple was found in the Virginia mountains after a hurricane in 1969. Husband and wife found a unique apple tree seedling while they were cleaning up from the hurricane. Experts believe it is a cross between a Golden Delicious, a Newtown Pippin’, and another unknown variety. It is popular because it is an early variety.

Here’s a reminder of all the wonderful benefits of local honey! For two years now, in the spring and fall, Jim eats one of our Wayward Farm honey sticks. He has not had any trouble with allergies ever since! If you have not made the switch to local Honey, don’t wait a minute longer!

The Walnut Creek pretzel rods are one of the best snacks we have! They are only priced at $1.99. A couple of them dipped in a Woeber’s gourmet mustard and you’ve got a delicious, crunchy snack!

I saw a recipe for a great homemade ranch! I’m going to use Huck’s ingredients this week and let you know how it is: 1 cup mayo, 1 cup sour cream, 2 heaping tablespoons of ranch seasoning, and 1 cup milk. This recipe calls for some dried dill, but it is optional. I'll give the family a taste test and let you know what they think!

Hello! Haven’t you enjoyed the fall temperatures? It’s been absolutely heavenly!

Many schools are celebrating their HOCOs! If you don’t know….HOCO is short for Homecoming. Lol. Marietta is celebrating Homecoming this week. Their dress up days are: Decades Day, Twin Day, Frat Boy Day, Class Color Day, and Tiger Spirit Day. Students are busy building floats, painting the rock, and there will be Spirit games and a pep rally! The Tigers play the Williamstown Yellowjackets. This game is also known as the Rumble of the River. If you aren’t busy, come on\ut October 2nd for Friday Night Lights.

Our very own Huck’s employee (and our son), Seth, was voted onto the 2026 Senior Homecoming Court! His sweet girlfriend, Eva Tornes, was as well. Good luck, Seth and Eva! We will be cheering you on!

The best of luck to the Marietta Girls Varsity Tennis team. Audrey and her teammates are heading to Logan on Tuesday for Sectionals. Audrey is playing doubles, and we hope all of the girls move on to Districts!

Hello! This week marks the official start of Fall! Fall begins on Tuesday, September 22nd. Although the heat is hanging on, here are the top reasons why people love Fall according to Google.

Perfect Weather: The temperatures are cooler and the humidity is low which makes outdoor activities more enjoyable!

Fashion and Comfort: It’s sweater time with lots of comfy layers. It’s time for fireplace movie nights in , warm blankets, and warm drinks.

Sights and Holidays: Leaves change into the prettiest shades of red, orange, and yellow. Fall is the kickoff to the holiday season with Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Outdoor Activities: It’s time for apple picking, pumpkin patches, corn mazes, football games, and haunted houses.

Signature Flavors: Everyone is ready for apple c***r, pumpkin spice lattes, cinnamon baked goods, and hot soups.

The prediction this year for leaves in our area from Accuweather is vibrant for Ohio! We have had plenty of rain this spring and summer which will allow for a beautiful change!

Jim has done a nice restock of mums at the main market! Wahoo!

When you buy your mums, make sure they get about 6 hours of sunlight. Also, cut or snap off spent blooms. This will give the extra energy necessary to the living buds and flowers.

Our mums are getting some big beautiful buds on them! They should burst open in the next week or two! This is the perfect timing for fall!

Jim and I have absolutely loved growing these mums! We are taking notes for next year on how we can improve and do a better job!

Seth tried Dutch Loaf for the very first time, and he is a fan! Not sure what it is? Their website describes it as a gluten-free, no-MSG cold cut deli meat made from a finely minced blend of pork and beef that is browned in cottonseed oil for a distinct savory flavor and appearance. Rooted in traditional Amish Country culinary styles distributed by Walnut Creek Foods this old-fashioned luncheon loaf features a smooth texture and mild, savory seasoning. Sounds like a good choice!
