Dear Pecan Classic Supporters,
It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be hosting our annual steer show. For 28 years, this event has been the foundation of our organization, but it is no longer feasible to continue. Recent challenges with exhibitors arriving the night before the show have created complications with the City of Seguin, and new city requirements now prevent us from operating the event in a financially sustainable way. As a nonprofit organization, we must ensure our events generate enough revenue to support our mission. Unfortunately, the steer show can no longer meet that standard.
Over the years, we have faced many adversities in keeping this show alive. We have lost dedicated supporters, navigated disagreements that tested friendships, and persevered through the challenges of hosting during COVID. Through it all, we found a way to carry on, turn a profit, and give back to the community in meaningful ways.
The success of this show has always depended on countless volunteer hours. Many of our volunteers used vacation days, contributed personal funds, brought their own equipment, and sponsored portions of the event. Their dedication is what made the steer show a tradition we are incredibly proud of.
As we move forward, we will shift our focus to our remaining events in hopes of offsetting the loss of the steer show. We are also taking this opportunity to revamp and simplify our organization. With these changes, we will no longer be awarding scholarships, as those funds were historically generated through steer show profits. Additionally, we will discontinue the wine pull at our Purse Bingo and will now only request material donations for our annual Pecan Classic Benefit Bash.
We will also no longer host the Bash in La Vernia. Due to ongoing challenges with the La Vernia Chamber, we believe it is in the best interest of our organization to secure a new location for both the Bash and the pig show.
Our mission remains unchanged: to give back as much as possible to the agricultural youth of Guadalupe County and La Vernia. We are deeply grateful for your support throughout the legendary run of the steer show, and we hope you will continue to stand with us as we focus on the future.
Respectfully,
Tray Garza
President
