Winter at Pigeon River Farm – Dreaming of Green Pastures ❄️🌿

It’s been a long winter here at Pigeon River Farm, and while the Highland bull doesn’t mind the cold with his thick, shaggy coat, the rest of us are counting down the days until spring. The snow-covered pasture is peaceful, but we’re all looking forward to the return of green grass, warm sunshine, and the sounds of birds and buzzing bees.

Winter chores keep us busy—hauling hay, breaking ice in the water troughs, and ensuring all the animals stay warm and well-fed. But there’s nothing quite like that first hint of spring when the snow melts, and the pastures start turning green again.

For now, we wait, we prepare, and we dream of those lush fields that will soon be bursting with life again. Warmer days are coming! 🌱☀️

Exciting progress on our Hybrid Tractor Project at Pigeon River Farm! 🌾

We've been hard at work transforming a classic Farmall M tractor into a hybrid vehicle, and we're thrilled to share our progress with you. Our weldment and fabrication stage is complete, and we've installed the batteries and developed a robust motor mounting system. Safety is our top priority, so we've ensured the high-voltage system is secure and isolated.

But that's not all! We're now gearing up for the project's next phase: developing a control box and integrating a custom controller. We're excited to tackle this challenge, and we can't wait to share our journey with you.

This episode talks about how important fresh air is for poultry health. I cover an excellent book on Fresh air Poultry housing written in 1924 by Prince T. Woods M.D. that has given our poultry operation a true focus.

Tonight’s episode discussed the high cost of farming in today’s inflationary environment. Several examples illustrate the impact of these farming costs and the effects that they will have on food costs later this year. I believe the food inflation discussion will be the central concern for most consumers this fall.

In this episode, we talk about the importance of education and farming. Continuous education is treated me exceptionally well in all my years of agriculture and many other aspects of my life. This video describes what I've learned in many classes and then gives real-world examples of recorded presentations that I've been at recently. The short video clips are excerpts of a long one to a three-hour presentation I've attended. The practices that you see in these video clips are things that I have implemented on the farm. If you'd like to learn more on any one of the subjects, please message me, and I will be more and happy to put together a more inclusive video on a given subject.
