Laurel Springs Farm

Mission

At Laurel Springs Farm our goal is to provide the highest quality natural beef to local consumers. We have implemented standards that successfully give our animals a safe environment. We maintain the highest quality standards for producing natural beef. We are proud of our affiliation with Global Animal Partnership, which is an animal welfare 5-step program. Our beef cattle are categorized under level 4, which is a pasture centered program and are never subjected to the use of antibiotics or any growth hormones, and are provided a stress free life. Our cattle are never fed animal byproducts. Our goal is to have our beef cattle live a healthy, happy life and leave our family farm to be delivered directly to your table. We want you to have the ease of mind knowing that we can trace every moment of that animal’s life. We want you to be able to choose how you want to fill your freezer, whether it be purchasing your choice of individual cuts directly from the farm or investing in a half or whole cow. Our History

In 1909 the Umbarger homestead was farmed in order to provide for the family. In 1922, Laurel Springs opened their parlor doors becoming Smyth County’s oldest dairy. Five generations of Umbargers worked this land, including Seth and his father, Everette. The farm, at one point, was a booming dairy that supplied milk, cream, and cheese to the people of the county. Seth graduated from Virginia Tech in 2002 with a degree in Dairy Science. He had a passion for nutrition and reproduction. Seth ran the family farm beside his father for ten years after graduating. In 2013, Seth and Everette jointly decided to close those parlor doors and venture soley into the world of beef cattle, after dabbling in beef production for a few years. Seth continues to find different avenues in which to grow the farm to be a more sustainable and environmentally friendly place. In 2015, Seth’s wife Courtney joined forces on the farm. Courtney graduated in 2008 from Virginia Tech with a degree from the Agricultural Technology Program in Applied Agriculture Management. She has a passion for the animal welfare, reproduction, and animal husbandry. Courtney manages the office and handles local marketing, as well as being a farm hand on some days.

One of my sweet seller clients surprised me with this gorgeous handmade blanket today, and it meant more to me than she probably realizes. 💜

She was there during the time my grandmother passed away, and on Halloween, it will have been seven years since she’s been gone. Over the years, I’ve continued adding to my iris garden. When my client saw the purple yarn, she said it made her think of me and my irises. 🥹

It’s funny how the smallest things can mean so much. Some days, I find myself wondering about the good in this world, and today, she reminded me that there is still so much of it. Sometimes, kindness shows up in the most unexpected ways—wrapped in a handmade blanket and a little bit of purple yarn.

I’ll treasure this one for more reasons than she knows. 💜

A good day of showing homes in Abingdon and Glade Spring! 🏡

Got the kids to school, got my showings done, picked them up, and one of my listings got shown today, too!

One of the things I appreciate most about real estate is being able to work and still be present for my kids. The days can get busy, but I wouldn’t trade that flexibility.

Now, time to be home with my babies. 💜

Hair dried with the windows down in the car? ✔️
Made it to my first showing ON TIME? ABSOLUTELY. 😂🙌🏻

I HATE being late, so we make it work! The dress might need an iron and the hair might have a mind of its own, but we showed up and we’re getting it done!

Three showings on the agenda today! 🏡🔑

🏡 A LITTLE HISTORY LESSON… because the details matter!

I was walking through a home built in the 1940s and these glass cabinet pulls caught my eye. 😍 And naturally, I had to stop and appreciate them!

Did you know glass cabinet hardware became especially popular in the early 20th century? During the World War I era, glass was an appealing alternative to metal, which was needed for the war effort. Clear and colored glass k***s continued to be used in homes through the 1930s and 1940s. ✨

The rippled glass, the scalloped shape, the way they catch the light… just a little piece of history hiding in an everyday detail.

Now, we can’t say for certain these particular pulls are original to the house, but they sure fit the vintage charm of the era!

This is one of my favorite things about walking through homes. I’m not just looking at bedrooms, bathrooms, and square footage. I’m looking for the character, the craftsmanship, and the little details that make a house stand out. 💜

Tell me… are you noticing the glass pulls?
