The sweet sounds of weaning season…well for the buckling. The doelings are still on their dam or bottle.
Capaldi is already tired of his loud mouth. 😅 Good thing he’s my best behaved buck.

Stop! Don’t throw out those egg shells or the raw milk you found in the freezer from 2024! 😅

Instead, use them in your garden! Your plants will thank you. The raw milk and egg shells provide essential calcium your plants need to thrive. They help prevent blossom-end rot and encourage microbial growth in the soil. Put some eggs shells down before planting and dilute your milk at least 3:1 before use.

So next time you cook up a dozen eggs, think twice before pitching the shells in the trash!

Come with me as we do chores in the pouring rain with a toddler. 🌧️ ☔️

Apparently I failed at recording bunny chores, so just imagine feeding hay and bun bun snuggles😅

Having my own compost has been something I have been striving for, for a very long time. I have tried multiple methods of composting my goat barn waste. I wasn’t successful in ever remembering to turn it so that it decomposed properly. That was until I decided that everything from the cleanouts would just go directly into the chicken run. Why not let the chickens do all the work for me? Even when free ranging, they didn’t stir it up enough when I piled it outside the runs. So inside the run it went! Now, whenever I need GOOD black gold dirt, I just open up the fence, grab the tractor and get to scraping it up.

The rabbit manure and waste goes directly to the garden. Nothing is wasted and that feels good. Now to fill up my garden containers and get things planted. I’m a little late but it’s better than never!

These chicks and keets are ready to find their new brooder! I’ve started down my list for guineas. I’ll give 24hrs to respond to my message and then we will have to move to next in line. This gives us space to make room for the others we have hatching. Be watching for your message!

Some of the chicks I pulled from the incubator this evening and moved out to the brooder! There’s still a few more I’m waiting on.

Chicks will be sold with the guineas first. Then whatever is left after that will be available!

If you want your guineas to stay home, it’s best to raise them along side chicks. Otherwise you risk losing your guineas to the neighbors (or worse) when you finally turn them out to free range. We have always had great success in doing it this way. They stay on our property all through out the day and sleep on the fence or tree right outside the coop every single night. They only go inside the coop (on their own) during the really harsh snowy nights.
