Hartland Farm and Orchard

Hartland Farm and Orchard Pick your own tomatoes, pumpkins and Christmas trees as well as corn maze and baked and canned foods seasonally. Located in the front field of Hartland Orchard, you will find a great pick your own pumpkin patch and the Fall Festival Fun Field with hayrides, a corn maze and lots of other fun activities.

A short distance down the road is Hank's cut your own Christmas Tree Farm.

Operating as usual

Hank and I live on our small farm in Maurertown which is near Woodstock. We have been planting Christmas trees here but this year we have added something new which is described in the video.
I'm getting calls about what vegetables and fruits are available in Markham. The first crop will be Green Truck Farm's strawberries which usually come in between mid and late May, depending on the weather. You can follow their page and I will update you here when they open.
Thank you for watching and interacting with our posts. Your support means more than you can know.

Donut Shortage Solved

Here's a little something to brighten your day. We need help with donuts and other things at the farm this year. Let us know if you are interested. Cheryll

Hank is pleased with how our Christmas tree held up this winter. It's a Fraser fir that we grew and it's still green and the needles are tight. We hope you had a good experience with your tree. Ours has been a winter habitat and will soon go in a pond to be a fish habitat.

Hank is thinking of having a Christmas tree planting party. If you are interested in planting a tree or trees, message us and we will work out something. We aren't really sure what a tree planting party would look like but it should be fun for all ages. The baby trees haven't arrived yet but it won't be long.

In the next week or two I will walk around and show you how things are looking in the first weeks of spring at the farm. I am really looking forward to working outside. The winter has been somewhat anxiety provoking for me and nothing helps with that more than working outside. Hank says he thinks everyone is feeling it and he's looking forward to planting and mowing too.
Brian and Georgi are covering and uncovering the strawberries according to the temperature. Strawberries are labor intensive.

Have you and your families been well over the winter? We certainly hope so.

Hartland Farm and Hank's Christmas Trees are closed, probably until the tomatoes get ripe in 2022.

I was contacted by someone who says that a blogger posted that we are having photography sessions in the Christmas trees on December 13. There are no photography sessions in December this year.

Here are a few of the people who helped make this Christmas tree season special. They are waving and saying, "See you next year!" Thank you to everyone who came out. All of us at Hartland wish you a very merry Christmas and the happiest New Year. Peace and love to you all.

Hank's Christmas Trees will be open tomorrow with trees up to 6 ft. All pre cut Fraser firs are sold.
We have invited Mrs. Claus to visit for years and she finally got us on her schedule. She's excited because she will help with our little store and she will be wearing a new outfit. We can't wait to see her.

Don't forget that Shenandoah University's acapella choir will sing at 10:30 for 15-20 minutes and then you will be invited to sing along.

We will have chili with corn bread, grilled cheese, hot cider, kettle corn, apple cake, chocolate chip pumpkin bread, apple donuts and caramel apples.
There will be complimentary hot chocolate. Come on out!

We will remain open through Saturday, December 4, for those who desire a tree up to 6 ft. All precut trees are gone. Saturday morning Shenandoah University's acapella choir will perform at 10:30 and hold a sing along. There will be complimentary hot chocolate and we will sell the final delicious apple donuts of the year. We hope you can add this to your Christmas activities.

An adorable small child (we think she might be 3) took home the bottom cutting from her tree last year, saved it all year, and brought it back to pay Hank for her tree this year. She took this year's cutting for the same purpose for next year. You must be an adorable 3 year old to try this. Molly, we are really looking forward to next year.

In other news, the weekend was a wild one with many, many trees leaving the farm. We have no more precut trees. Cut your own trees are still available but probably only to 6-6.5 ft. at the most tomorrow.
We will have a few donuts in the morning and complimentary hot chocolate. We will have some caramel apples, kettle corn and lots of wreaths.

Thank you to all of you wonderful people who make the work of growing Christmas trees worthwhile.

Carol Soaper, it was very nice to see you. Hank had to ask what a spinner class is.

Tomorrow and every day until we are out of trees, we will be open 10 AM-5PM. Cut your own trees are 60.00.
Precut trees will have price tags and they go from 80.00-200.00.
We are unavailable for questions now and will see you at the farm.

Hank with a few words about Leyland Cypress.

Hank with a few words about Fraser firs.

It won't be long! Christmas trees open Friday after Thanksgiving from 10 am to 5 pm every day until we run out of trees.
We have everything you need including saws, gloves, a shaker, baler and rope at no extra charge. We have a drill and we sell tree stands.
Complimentary hot chocolate is available and we sell hot cider, grilled cheese sandwiches, chili, kettle corn and apple donuts.
Hank is excited about caramel apples and has given them their own little building.
We will have Christmas ornaments and fresh wreaths.
Cut your own trees cost 60.00 for any size. The cost of precut Fraaser firs will be determined when we get them and know our total cost.
We always have the best customers but last year you all were exceptional as we were all dealing with Covid rules and you were terrific. This year we ask that you continue social distancing and wear a mask if you are unvaccinated.
Please do not bring your dog to the Christmas trees. We want everyone to be really comfortable and have a wonderful family experience.

I hope people get to see this edit. I'll mention it again. Shenandoah University's Acapella choir will come to the farm on December 4 at a time yet to be determined. They will sing Christmas songs for 20 minutes or so and then you will be invited to sing along. Hank and I were in Fauquier High School's acapella choir many years ago but we love listening now. Come for the music and a free hot chocolate even if you don't need a tree.

The market will remain closed this weekend due to wet ground.
Hank and Cheryll and the entire team send a huge thank you to all who came out and shared time with us this year. We will talk about Christmas trees soon.
The orchard is open because it's on a hill and doesn't have standing water. If you have apple questions, please call Hartland Orchard at 540-364-2316.

The market will be open this final weekend from 10 am to 4 pm with donuts, caramel apples, and hot cider. The cow train will not run Saturday but may on Sunday if the ground dries up a bit. You won't find pumpkins to pick, but you are welcome to go out in the patch and smash any out there. Kicking and stomping are permitted.
Hartland Orchard is still open 9-5. Please call them with your apple questions. 540-364-2316

We are making a few donuts this morning. Stop by before noon and you will get one free.

The pumpkin patch and market will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.
Hartland Orchard is open 9-5 every day. For apple information call 540-364-2316.

The pumpkin patch is open today and every weekend through November 1. That is how much longer you have to get apple donuts! I will try to post here if we have to close later today due to storms.
The orchard is open and, as always, call them for apple info at 540-364-2316.

We are still getting a few calls about the Fall Festival Fun Field and corn maze which we were unable to open again this year. We will have our cow train running from about 10:30 to 4 today and tomorrow, weather permitting. Your ticket gets you a cow car and a pie pumpkin.

The market will be open today and the Donut King will make donuts available about 10:30. Pumpkin picking is available too.

About noon today the Donut King will work his magic and we will have some for you. We don't usually have them on weekdays.

Whenever I think of powdered sugar I am reminded of Richard Scary's Great Steamboat Mystery which was read to my 2 1/2 year old so often that he could sit and, "read" the pages himself. Powdered sugar was the clue to solving the mystery. But why, you ask, am I thinking about powdered sugar? Well, I received a shipment of a dozen 25 lb bags of it by mistake and the company doesn't want it back! I am contacting my farmer friends to see if they need any. Also, some of our donut customers will be very happy to know that we are going to coat some apple donuts with it. We have had several customers unable to eat our donuts because they are coated in cinnamon sugar and they have cinnamon allergies.
We will be making donuts again this weekend and the weather will be glorious so make plans to come for a visit. You can pick apples at Hartland Orchard or pumpkins down on the farm. Apple cider slushies, kettle corn, grilled cheese and burgers are on the menu too.

Update to all my lovely clients! I'm finishing up my holiday family queue and this week will catch up with any non-holiday family sesh's! Thank you for your superhuman patience. 😉 Here is a preview of my last tree farm session of the year! This mama always (this is our third sesh together!) puts together the best outfits, and this year brought some hot cocoa and marshmallows for the kiddos. SO awesome.
