| My Story |

Ciao! My name is Kirstin, and I am the owner and operator of Piccoline's Table, based out of Marlborough, Massachusetts. My loving relationship with food began at a very young age, in my Grandparent’s kitchen in New Jersey. Before I was even old enough to understand or appreciate the initiation I was a part of, my Grandfather would have me try fresh, raw vegetables right from his humble little backyard garden. He would pick green beans, lettuce, and tomatoes still wet with dew from the cool, early mornings, and hold them right up to my mouth, never taking no for an answer. At the time, I really only understood food as being seasoned or sauced, and prepared on a plate. Yet, even being so young, as I’d crunch on a green bean, I could always see the excitement in his eyes, and could tell he wanted me to appreciate these simple pleasures as much as he did. For him, the most proud Italian man I’ve EVER met, discussing and enjoying food meant celebrating a rite and ritual, with food representing the biggest expression of our culture. He raised me on stories of my Grandma (who had passed) beginning each Sunday morning before the sun came up, in the kitchen breaking down tomatoes and hand rolling pounds of fresh pasta. My Grandfather Anthony Piccoline was truly the embodiment of the concept of Food = Love. To my Pop, food translates to time spent with family, laughter, conversation, and making memories. To Pop, this all happens over a warm plate of pasta, with a glass of wine. I grew up finely tuning my skills at traditional Italian cooking, growing from my Grandparent’s kitchen, to cooking side by side with my Mom. Then, life took a dark turn as it often does, and I found myself sick with Cancer. Once I recovered, I was faced with a new challenge. For my health, I had to find newer, healthier ways to cook classic favorites. (Although Italian / Mediterranean food isn’t considered unhealthy, I still had to find new creative ways to make healthier versions of my favorite meals). I spent years adjusting and alternating recipes, and now these newly crafted versions have become favorites as well! I feel lucky that I was able to find a happy medium of old world Italian classics and newer healthy meals. My goal was to NEVER feel like I was sacrificing, or eating “diet” food, left craving. I believe delicious food should be accessible and enjoyable, even to those of us with bodies that like to fight us, as mine often does :-) This journey then led me down the road of fresh pasta making. Making pasta comes from the heart, and is the Italian version of love and care on a plate. Although both of my Grandparents are now gone from this world, I proudly carry on their traditions. Just as a painter carefully works to execute the exact correct shade of color for their canvas, I carefully work to perfect as many fresh pasta variations as I can, without any chemicals or artificial additives! My canvas is my plate. Eating healthy or authentically does NOT have to be boring or basic, and I'm here to prove it! Today, I take pride in creating the freshest and cleanest pasta I can (with a bit of fun and flair), to share with others, just as my Grandma did every Sunday in “Old-New Jersey.”

Cooking always was, and still remains my one true love, and my Grandfather was my Cupid. Piccoline’s table is for him.

🗣 Sharing one of our FAVORITE go-to recipes! ✨️COD PUTTANESCA✨️ This has become a weekly staple in our house. Healthy, quick & easy!

(These are recipes I've made & tested, so I've marked any of my OWN notes with "KN" for "Kirstin's Note")

🥫 Ingredients 🧈................................
• 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 4 pieces
• 2-4 cloves garlic, chopped (KN: I use either 2
HUGE garlic cloves, or 3-4 small cloves)
• 3 anchovy fillets
• ⅓ cup dry white wine, such as Chardonnay
• 1 (28-ounce) can whole tomatoes (preferably
San Marzano)
• ½ teaspoon dried oregano
• ½ teaspoon dried thyme
• Mix of 15-20: black olives & green Castelvetrano
olives, halved and pitted
• 2 tablespoons capers, drained
• 1-1.5 lbs white fish, such as cod, skin removed,
cut into 4 equal pieces
• ¾ teaspoon sea salt
• ¼ cup chopped fresh basil and/or parsley
(optional)
• Red pepper flakes for serving (optional)

🍴Instructions 🔪.................................
Preheat oven to 400°F with a rack in the center position.

Melt the butter in a large ovenproof skillet or braising pan over medium heat. (KM: I use my dutch oven!) Once the butter is bubbling, add the garlic and anchovies. Cook, stirring to break up the anchovies, until fragrant, 1 to 2 minutes.

Add in the wine and cook until slightly reduced, about 3-4 minutes. Add the oregano and thyme, stir, then add the tomatoes. Bring the sauce to a simmer. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes, or until the tomatoes are broken down and the sauce begins to thicken. Stir in the olives and capers. Remove from heat.

Season the fish with salt. Add it to the dutch oven with the sauce, and submerge. Transfer your pan to the oven (uncovered) and cook until fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork, 10-12 minutes. Remove from the oven.

Plate the fish, spoon the sauce over the fish, and sprinkle with fresh basil, parsley, and red pepper flakes, if using. Serve over pasta if desired! (KN: We serve over pasta with garlic bread for dipping!)

📸 Photo #4: We recommend pairing your meal with ✨️THIS✨️ wine; it was amazingly light, crisp and refreshing, balancing & cutting through the salt & sea flavor!

*STOMPING FEET* 🤯 😤 I just 💥REFUSE💥 to call our next Marlborough indoor market a "Winter" market (even though it may TECHNICALLY fall under the winter market season category.....*crossing arms dramatically*)....so the best I can bring myself to call tomorrow's market is "winter/spring-ISH." 🤣

This is our ✨️2nd to last✨️ at the Marlborough Public Library! So come see us tomorrow and try one of our NEW pasta flavors!

The summer market countdown has officially begun! 🏝😎⛱️🌊
