Good evening, Market-goers. Here we are at the end of school-kids summer but still at the height of produce summer! I tell ya, I'm hard pressed to use all the stuff I buy at Market every week but I just can't leave a delicious Michigan treat behind. I ended up with an excess of eggplants from Railway Farms (oh, darn, they are small and shiney and fulfill my daily requirement of purple foods, however will I manage such abundance??), so I used orange tomatoes and freshly-harvested basil (most of it has bushed up and gone to flower but I don't mind one bit because my patio garden smells AMAZING and the bees are having a field day. Can you imagine what basil flower honey would taste like?? My buzzing visitors aren't hive bees, alas, so I will just have to live in ignorance.) and a whole head of garlic- all from Hazel Family Farm and made a pseudo-ratatouille. Then I dipped slices of rosemary foccacia from Crust & Crumb European-Style Bakery in the fresh Augusty stew and basically enjoyed my culinary prowess. I might try it again in the future, but with onions (I didn't have any) and lentils (they would break down in the cooking pot and add an earthiness that wouldn't be terrible).

Anyway, Market-goers, the point is that Marshall Area Farmers' Market can keep you stocked through the ongoing fear of grocery store lettuce, and I think I heard something about an imported beef recall this week? Definitely don't buy that stuff. We got you covered with food that grew down the street from you by farmers you can talk to.

Oh, by the way, tomorrow is a fifth Saturday and that makes it a KIDS DAY! Sadly, several of our scheduled Youth Vendors cancelled, but Henry of HLS 3D Printing is ready and excited to display his wares for you! Ralph of Wooden Toys and Boxes has a little gift for every child who visits his stall in Row 3. Also, we'll have face painting courtesy of Eastend Gallery. Extra magicians from I.B.M. Neil Foster Ring 89 have been invited to join your favorite regular Grand Wysard Phillip to delight your eyes. Market anniversary colouring pages will be the Kids' Activity, and if the hornets will let me up in the barn attic, I'll get the corn hole boards down for a little tossing fun.

It's going to be a good time, so slather on that sunscreen and come take a summer stroll. Can't wait to see you!

Good morning, Market-Goers. Well, the radar was telling a different story when we were setting up this morning compared to where we are now. However! The thunder stayed north of us, so we are just dealing with rain which means WE ARE HERE! All the Vendors chose to stay put, so put on a raincoat and come get some perfect summer food to counteract the imperfect timing of the rain. (sources say this rain will be done at 9:30) ~Lady Col, Manager

We are at 125 W Green St, Marshall MI until NOON (unless the lightning swings south) Saturday, August 22, 2026

Good evening, Market-Goers! Not much to report this week: just a quiet mid-August Market filled with your favorite summertime food. Railway Farms reports that the first of her acorn squash is harvested (see the photo of the gorgeous scarab-green squash for a tempting reference). Emery Foods asked if they could bring amaranth leaves, so keep checking their stall to see if the spinach-esque greens are ready. Emelander Family Farm & Farm 2 Fork had a busy week at the fair with their cows, but they'll be with us and ready to serve a tasty breakfast (or try their gyros at lunchtime!), and I saw that Fluffy Butt Farms MI has some popular hot dogs back in stock. And! Hilltop Sweet Corn had a good harvest this week, so they will make another appearance in row 4.

For the Kids' Activity, we'll be planting herb seeds to take home. If your kiddos planted seeds with us during the summer and have had successful plants take root, we'd love to see it! Snap a photo and email it to us or tag us on social media!

Also for the kids this week, MDL Storytime from 11-12 on the east end of Row 3, by the lounge canopy.

We still have funds available for Calhoun Senior Activity Bingo, so get those sheets turned in if you have them completed! $50 bucks to spend at the Market is nothing to sneeze at. Show off your bike at the MAFM tent and get your "I rode my bike!" thank-you; and we have three new seasonal recipes for your little recipe sleeves. Don't have any recipes or sleeves? We can remedy that! Free Market recipes every week! Thanks, Summer Program Sponsors!

One note of caution: I've been keeping an eye on the weather report and there is a slight risk of thunderstorms right as we close at noon. My advice: get to Market early just to be safe!

Can't wait to see you. < 3 Lady Col, Manager

Good evening, Market-Goers! We have another solid summer-market line up for you tomorrow. It's mid-August, so everything looks good. Some things- like tomatoes and peppers- are hitting their stride, while others- like our dedicated blueberry Vendor, Harris Blueberries- are winding down.

We lucked out this week and are getting a visit from Hilltop Sweet Corn- probably his only visit, but that's farming for ya! Nothing is ever a guarantee- and that's what you see at a farmers' market: the REAL growing rhythms of our food, not some year-round and tasteless convenience of "fresh" food in the middle of winter, flown in from Peru. Even in summer, you see this! Seriously, take a look at those tags at the store that tell you the price per pound- below the $$ is the country of origin. Snow peas from Chile, puh-lease! I'll wait for them to be at Railway Farms booth, tyvm. And if the weather doesn't cooperate for tasty snow pea growth? I'll find something else. We live in an abundant state- there will always be something to eat that grew less than 100 miles away. (for example, Filiberto at Emery Foods is bringing amaranth greens as soon as he can. Check out a new vegetable! Treat them like spinach in your cooking.)

Also check out Draupnir's Dew Apiary - he has beeswax candles from his hives in Albion! I'm excited about this. I love the smell of a beeswax candle! It's warm and inviting and subtle and oddly smells nothing like honey. Bees are little miracles. They do so much for us just by pollinating our food plants, and then some of them go and make food we can eat (honey) and fatty acids we can manipulate (wax), among other things! Swing by Caleb's booth and have a chat about those amazing creatures, then take a couple of candles home to see the cozy lightwaves they emit when lit.

And, our ongoing activities are... er, ongoing. Kids Activity, Senior Bingo, Bike Rewards, Recipe Cards

Can't wait to see you! ~LadyCol, Manager
