Good late evening, Marke-Goers! Apologies for the lateness of this post, but there is a lot going on! You'll have to plan your Saturday carefully. First, you should visit the Market and get your shopping done. If you have kids, they should grab some cocoa at our cocoa bar. Then, at 11, those kids in their costumes should attend the Marshall Fire Department Costume Parade. In the afternoon, you'll have to choose based on your interests: of course there is the worthy Zombie Walk Michigan starting at Carver Park at 3pm. But if you are worn out and have already donated your food to the walk, check out The Magic Cabin at 2pm. Do you enjoy the magicians at MAFM? Did you know they have a whole club and that you don't have to do any magic in order to join?? And did you know that they are having a magic show at The Great Escape Theatre on October 24 at 2pm in order to raise funds to help the American Museum of Magic fix its roof? Well now you know! If you like the magicians at Market and want to see even more kinds of magic and meet other members of their club, spend the afternoon at their magic show! Oh, and if that's not enough- Eastend Gallery is having a spoooky dark faerie ball in the evening. So much to do, so little haunting time to do it!

I'm excited about this week's line up, Market-Goers. To dust off a phrase from last year, we are small but mighty. I already mentioned the Cheese People, but Jenni-B is also scheduled! She has a lovely selection of soaps to help your skin through the dry months and they are great as hosting gifts during the holidays. Also in her booth: cozy candles, scent melts, and room sprays. Check her out! Jack's Homestyle Woodworking joins us (yes, that's a woodworking pun) with some beautiful new cups- good for drinking out of, holding pencils in, or putting your DnD dice in. Keen-eyed Market Goers will notice that a Vendor we had on the May Kids Day returns this month: give Brittany's Flour Stand's sourdough loaves or individual brown butter cinnamon rolls a try this autumn.

Now, some announcements:
First, I was wrong in my post last Saturday about the Cheese People. I am happy to report that- unforseen emergencines not withstanding- the Cheese People of Grand Rapids will be with us through the end of October! That means you have two Market days to stock up on tasty small-batch artisan cheeses! You'll have to grab their online ordering info to sustain you through the winter months, though, so get thee to Market by October 31 for that cherished cheesey goodness!

Second, can you say "Hot Cocoa Bar"? Heck yeah! MAFM is having a little hot cocoa bar for free this week. It's "while supplies last," so that means we'll be prioritizing the children (there are a few perks to being young enough not to legally drive, and one of them is going to the front of the hot cocoa line at MAFM). We'll pour the hot water, you mix the powder and top your cup as you wish. Vegan options and tea are available for those who want something hot but have dietary restrictions.

The produce is dwindling and the leaves are turning, which means it's time to get your Winter Punch Card at the MAFM tent. It's also time to spend your Kids Bucks, your Bike Rewards, turn in your Senior Activity Bingo sheets, grab the final recipes for this year, and use up your SNAP/DUFB tokens. It's been a pretty good summer, Market-Goers, and we appreciate your participation in the Marshall Area Farmers' Market. Thank you for joining us. One more outdoor week to go!

Good evening, Market-Goers. It seems like we only got a few days of glorious yellow tree leaves before this wet wind came through and ripped them off their little stems. I'm looking out the window at one tree in particular that was covered in curling leaves yesterday, but now I can see right through to the fields beyond. Alas. It does put one in a nice cozy autumn mood, though. I did a final harvest of the garden ahead of the predicted frost tonight and I will be dining on a meal that feels way too summery: tomato and basil salad with fresh mozarella. The basil is a little tough this late in the season, but the tomatoes (starts bought from Hazels and Perennial Connection earlier this year) have been consistently sweet and flavourful the whole way through. While I am grateful for the bounty of the garden and will enjoy my supper, my body is ready for sweet potato chili (our Market Recipe card this week) or Farmer's Market Casserole (last week's Recipe card).

One thing I won't be missing out on is Magnolia Grace's pumpkin spice sourdough. It's her last week at the Summer Market, so don't dilly dally or you could end up sad and loafless. Also with us for the last time this year: EBMY Farm. If you need jam, or pickles, or relish, or jarred salsa, or infused vinegar, or beautiful art, don't skip Paige's booth! She also has a schedule of her art classes you can attend in the colder months, as well as a good variety of delicious sun-kissed apples that want to come home with you and live their best life in your lunch box or as a pie. (northern spy, macintosh, red, and yellow delicious) After that, check out Bristol & Thornbury for a bag of pears (because sometimes you need a break from apples, and pears don't keep as long as apples anyway so you can snack back and forth as you wait for the pears get to your preferred ripeness. You know what I'm talking about, Market-Goer.) And if you're still looking for a little something to decorate with for the spooky season, perhaps you will find what you want in Jack's Homestyle Woodworking's booth. Jack and Amalia have been adding some cute Halloweeny items to their stock, definitely worth a look!

While we won't have more Kids Bucks this week, we will have a "Treats for Birds" activity. This is primarily for kiddos, but we won't turn away adults who are keen to have a little bit of crafting fun. As for those Kids Bucks- they expire on October 31, so plan accordingly kids!

Seniors, there is still time to redeam your Activity Bingo sheet and get your Bingo Bucks. Bike Riders, we're giving out tokens each time you ride to Market through the end of October. If you are putting your foot to the pedal, we'll give you a little thank-you!

Good evening, Market-Goers! Have you noticed the tree-tunnels are starting to be multi-coloured? What a lovely part of Autumn, the warm sunshiney hues that reach out as the days start to get a little chilly. To those who are unable to see such changes, I am sorry you have to miss it but I am certain you have an adequate imagination. Here is a prompt for you: when you are on the shadey side of the street and feel a bit nippy, but then the sunshine crests a building unexpectedly to warm your skin, added to catching a waft of someone burning a good pile of crisp leaves. That's what the changing of the foliage looks like.

You know what else is beautiful: outstanding locally-produced goods. Might I suggest Magnolia Grace 's Pumpkin Spice Sourdough for a surprising twist on the seasonal obsession with that flavour profile. I had a loaf last week and it was refreshing to have a nice proper autumn-themed food that didn't overwhelm with spice. It's a gentle orange colour and quite (I'm going to use a controversial word here, Market-Goers. I'm sorry, but it applies) moist from the pumpkin without being doughy or too sweet. It toasts up beautifully, holds butter perfectly, and would make excellent fronch toast. Give it a try before it disappears! It would look delightful on a custom cutting board from Jack’s Homestyle Woodworking . They'll be doing some sanding and demos this week, so check them out on the east end of Row 3. And Marshall District Library will be with us for storytime at... er, 10:30 or 11. I forgot to write down which time, so come early just in case. It should be a nice day for a wander and a story.

Oh, did I mention that it's the FINAL Googlie Eyes Day of the year?? Yep, kiddos have one more shot to find all those googlie eyes at Vendor booths! Remember, it can take a little while to find them all and we stop handing out clue sheets at 11:30 so everyone has time to finish up before market's end.
