Good evening, Market-Goers! We have another solid summer-market line up for you tomorrow. It's mid-August, so everything looks good. Some things- like tomatoes and peppers- are hitting their stride, while others- like our dedicated blueberry Vendor, Harris Blueberries- are winding down.
We lucked out this week and are getting a visit from Hilltop Sweet Corn- probably his only visit, but that's farming for ya! Nothing is ever a guarantee- and that's what you see at a farmers' market: the REAL growing rhythms of our food, not some year-round and tasteless convenience of "fresh" food in the middle of winter, flown in from Peru. Even in summer, you see this! Seriously, take a look at those tags at the store that tell you the price per pound- below the $$ is the country of origin. Snow peas from Chile, puh-lease! I'll wait for them to be at Railway Farms booth, tyvm. And if the weather doesn't cooperate for tasty snow pea growth? I'll find something else. We live in an abundant state- there will always be something to eat that grew less than 100 miles away. (for example, Filiberto at Emery Foods is bringing amaranth greens as soon as he can. Check out a new vegetable! Treat them like spinach in your cooking.)
Also check out Draupnir's Dew Apiary - he has beeswax candles from his hives in Albion! I'm excited about this. I love the smell of a beeswax candle! It's warm and inviting and subtle and oddly smells nothing like honey. Bees are little miracles. They do so much for us just by pollinating our food plants, and then some of them go and make food we can eat (honey) and fatty acids we can manipulate (wax), among other things! Swing by Caleb's booth and have a chat about those amazing creatures, then take a couple of candles home to see the cozy lightwaves they emit when lit.
And, our ongoing activities are... er, ongoing. Kids Activity, Senior Bingo, Bike Rewards, Recipe Cards
Can't wait to see you! ~LadyCol, Manager
