This plastic is biodegradable and will break down. It's purpose is to help the ground absorb the sunlight so that it is warmer for the watermelon plants. This should help accelerate their growth. The rye in between the rows will help restrict w**d growth in our watermelon patch!

[We had twins this morning!] 😍

This is a bull/heifer pair, so the female calf is likely a "freemartin," and will not be able to reproduce.

"A freemartin is genetically female, but has many characteristics of a male. The ovaries of the freemartin do not develop correctly, and they remain very small. This is caused by a joining of the placental membranes that occurs at about the fortieth day of pregnancy, and thereafter, the fluids of the two fetuses are mixed. This causes exchange of blood and antigens carrying characteristics that are unique to each heifers and bulls. When these antigens mix, they affect each other in a way that causes each to develop with some characteristics of the other s*x." - TheCatteSite.com

[HAPPY !]

Did you know..

□ 2.2 million farms dot America’s rural landscape. About 97 percent of U.S. farms are operated by families – individuals, family partnerships or family corporations.

□ Farm and ranch families comprise just 2 percent of the U.S. population.

□ Today’s farmers produce 262 percent more food with 2 percent fewer inputs (labor, seeds, feed, fertilizer, etc.), compared with 1950.

Happy National Agriculture Day from Cora and Cross River Cattle!!

[The weather is changing for the better!]

These girls were happy to hear there are some 30's and 40's in the forecast!

With windchills factored in, there will be a 70° difference in just over a week's time! Isn't that crazy?! We're ready for it :)
