‼️‼️ Horse of the Week ‼️‼️

Scout “ Cranberry Acres Show Stopper” is a favorite in the barn. Purchased by the Kelly family as a yearling in 2013, Scout is a Welsh Pony that may not have been cute as a button as a baby, but has grown up to be a beautiful and fun show pony. He has even been a model for SmartPak! As many of you have witnessed over the years, we do love surprises; Scout was the first pony surprise in CAE history.

Scout traveled to Pony Finals in 2019 where he competed against the most competitive ponies in the entire country. This pony has shown extensively in New England as well as North Carolina, where he lived for two years prior to coming home at the end of 2025.

Formerly “Bacardi” Scout is a fun and reliable pony under saddle. He is incredibly personable in the barn, and is always curious to see what is in everyone’s pockets. His favorite sweet treat is Skittles, and his best friend is Pip! Scout is also known for sticking his tongue out, earning the giggles from many of our barn kids.

Scout is a silly, in your pocket, you better know how to ride or your in for it type of pony, and we are so happy to have him home and showing with us this year.

Nationals for our 2025-2026 IEA Season was pretty amazing!

🥈Brooke Kelly placed 2nd in Varsity Open Equitation over Fences. She THEN went on to place 3rd in the IHSA Varsity Open Championship!!

We are so incredibly proud of Brooke and everything she has accomplished in her IEA career. Brooke has been participating in IEA from the beginning, and her commitment, talent, and passion for the sport were so well showcased this weekend in her amazing trips. What a special way to finish this chapter in her riding journey! Time sure does fly…. 😭

🎉Olivia Taglione placed 7th in Future Intermediate over Fences. Olivia has shown incredible poise under pressure, horsemanship and talent over the course of the year, and this amazing finish to 2026 highlights all she has accomplished.

👏Charlotte Le Clair rode a gorgeous trip in Junior Varsity Beginner Walk Trot. This was Charlotte’s first year participating on our IEA team, and we could not be more proud to see her showcase her strength and talent under saddle in St. Louis. We can’t wait to see what happens in her years to come!

This year was such a success in so many ways for the Cranberry Acres team, and it’s only right to highlight the foundation on which the team stands.

💕 We had an incredibly supportive, creative and dedicated group of parents and family to support the riders and coaches. Fundraising, Pasta Parties, sweeping up in the aisles and many a chilly night bundled up in the indoor… Thank You.

✨Our amazing training staff and coaches. To Coach Jillian, Coach Kate, and Julie…your guidance, talent, and passion for horsemanship and sportsmanship are so clearly seen by those around you, and is evident in the way our team shines ✨

🦄 And to our amazing herd of horses, who allow us to do what we do every day. Who teach our riders what it truly means to be horsewomen.

‼️ Horse of the Week ‼️

Hootie

We are so excited for this one!! Hootie has been the heart of our preschool pony and beginner riding program for many years. In his younger days, Hootie jumped courses, performed the cutest flying lead changes, taught many girls the importance of outside leg through the turn, and has won the heart of anyone who’s met him. With his EPIC forelock, kind and curious personality, and tiny frame, it’s hard not to love the hootman. Hootie has been the star of many shows, piloting his riders to many blue ribbons, and carrying his young riders quietly and safely around the ring. Our little Hoots has been the star of summer camp, birthday parties, horsemanship clinics, visits from the Easter Bunny, trail rides and more. He is the two time champion of our Halloween party bobbing for apples competition, and can grow hair faster than ever thought possible!

Hootie’s heart belongs to Coach Kate, who does sometimes forget Hootie’s strict diet, and spoils him with her wide assortment of treats and snacks. His cheerful whinny at mealtime, and his low nicker when he sees Coach Kate are our favorite sounds. His best friend in life is Baby Belle, whom he has watched grow over the last six years into the amazing show pony she is today! Although she is bigger than him now, he still lets her know who gets first choice of hay in their paddock.

Officially owned by Thomas Kelly, with the show name “Fortnite Gamer”, we are so very lucky that Hootie came to live at Cranberry Acres many years ago. It takes a very special animal to be a school pony, and Hootie is the school pony every trainer is grateful to work with. Hootie is a sweet, goofy, food motivated and bright light at our farm, and is absolutely adored by all!

‼️ Horse of the Week ‼️

Toby
“Now We’re Talkin”

Toby “Dauntless” is a 16 year old retired racehorse. He raced 26 times, placing 13 times and winning 7 times! 🥇 His earnings totaled over $156,000. His father “Real Quiet” was a successful race horse and was just a nose away from winning the triple crown under Bob Baffert many years ago!

Toby has called Cranberry Acres home for the last ten years, arriving in August of 2016. Having spent many years being trained and shown by both Julie & Anna Kelly, Toby is a talented, versatile and willing horse, who enjoys his job and loves to jump. This horse has taught riders the intricacies of lead changes and holding the counter canter, how to jump courses designed for top level divisions, and comes into a course with athleticism and heart. Toby has been well loved by many leasers over the years, but has also been a fantastic teacher for our IEA & IHSA programs.

Like many of the riders at CAE, he is Starbucks’ biggest fan with his favorite treat being the strawberry refresher. 🍓 Toby is a steady, strong presence around the barn, a dirty, stinky, and mud loving boy out in his paddock, and is best friends with another retired thoroughbred, named Bodie.

If you walk around our farm, you can’t help but notice that Julie has a type. The plain bay thoroughbred gelding. We have… quite a few of them. And it would seem to have started with Toby, who has been such an excellent example of his breed, but also an excellent example of what we strive to achieve for our young horses that come to Cranberry Acres.

Cheers to another ten years, Toby! 💖
