After a lot of thought and consideration, we’ve decided to do something I had never planned on.
We’re going to raise broilers outside of what we consider “in season” for us 🎉
Up until this year, the thought of raising broilers during colder months was out of the question for a variety of reasons, but we’re going to give it a shot.
We’ll be modifying our practices a teeny, tiny bit: stocking the shelters with a larger number of broilers and keeping them in the brooder a few days longer.
We will also be modifying our chicken shelters to help protect them from the less favorable weather conditions.
All that being said, if at any point during the season our birds are not thriving, we will wrap up the season until the spring.
I don’t know how much we will produce or how often during this time since it is all an experiment, but we’re going to keep everyone’s best interests (especially the chickens) in mind.
