Just had my NPIP renewal visit & my birds all have a clean bill of health! ☺️🐣 Read below to find out more about what this means & why it matters. 🐥

When choosing where to obtain/purchase chicks/poultry, be it to start a flock or to add to your existing flock, sourcing healthy birds is paramount & of utmost importance. Purchasing from animal auctions, a local farmer, or even big box feed supply stores (such as tractor supply) are all options of course but they are not equal when it comes to providing chicks/poultry that you can BE SURE you can add SAFELY to your flock without unintentionally & unknowingly introducing a flock irradicating illness. One way I am committed to providing my customers chicks/poultry of the best health & quality is by voluntarily participating in the National Poultry Improvement Plan, aka NPIP. I am NPIP Certified & have a status of U.S. Pullorum-Typhoid Clean with added classification — AI (avian influenza) Clean. This means my breeding flocks are regularly tested for diseases & closely monitored to ensure they are in optimal health. All of these things mean you can expect healthy poultry/chicks from me (Blame It All On My Roost Poultry Farm & Hatchery).

•Avian Influenza (AI) Clean:
In poultry health, AI Clean refers to Avian Influenza Clean. It is a highly sought-after certification indicating that a breeding flock has been tested and found negative for the highly contagious bird flu virus.

Requirements: Flocks must typically be tested every 6 months using throat or cloacal swabs.

•Pullorum-Typhoid (PT) Clean
While less commonly referred to as "AI", the foundational and mandatory certification for all NPIP participants is Pullorum-Typhoid Clean. This signifies the birds are free from two highly contagious, deadly Salmonella bacteria that once caused up to 80% mortality in baby chicks.

New availability starting this week: Welsummer sexed pullet chicks! 🐣

About the impeccable Welsummers
They are among the most attentive, curious, active, & intelligent breeds & are easily trained to come for the shake of a treat bag. They enjoy attention, will happily eat from your hand, follow you around the yard to see what you’re up to, and are content to forage near your side. They make EXCELLENT backyard companions. But, if you need some time alone they tolerate confinement well!

Bringing hearty cold tolerance with them from the Netherlands (where the breed was originally bred), you don’t need to worry much about them in the winter.

You will love their large eggs! They lay eggs that vary from a deep reddish brown to more of a terra cotta color(dark reddish-brown) colored SPECKLED eggs! Sitting on nests is not an activity they enjoy and you won’t need to worry about broodiness either.

Going for bold coloration hen have golden brown heads that flow into dark brown bodies with feathers shafted in white or lighter brown. A sight to be seen both themselves and the eggs they produce!
