Sunset Acres Farm

Sunset Acres Farm This is our dream coming to life. It’s just the beginning.

Our goal is to first and always honor and glorify God, to love and care well for the animals He provides and encourage others along the way.

This isn’t farm related but something exciting we have in the works.

My dad and late grandpa meticulously restored these tractors and the Ford Model T in the early ‘90s. We trailered them to the Texas Early Day Tractor And Engine Association every year; rain or shine, and even drove them through several parades in the central Texas area.
I was surrounded by this tradition from a young age so when Steven and I married, we continued as long as the military had us in Texas and brought up our kids to love this tradition and hopefully one day, continue to carry it on as well.
For the last several years the mechanical aspect has been a new challenge for my dad who could always fix anything, especially these antique tractors. We got as many to the annual show as we could but they were mostly being pushed on and off the trailer. Dad decided that for us to continue the show and legacy, it was time for him to pass them down.
Our goal is to have all four running smoothly by October 1! We have the Allis-Chalmers C, which has always been my favorite, almost ready to go and are taking the Model T to a professional this weekend.
If you’re interested in this kinda thing, follow along - I’ll post more about them as we get them up and running. And if you’re local and driving by, you might occasionally see me driving one around checking fences 😉

We have just welcomed our second calf of 2026, born an hour ago. Indie has safely delivered a beautiful little heifer and both are doing well.
Praise the Lord! After the scare from Flower on New Year’s, I prayed frequently for Indie to have a successful and safe delivery. He is always faithful ♥️

In years past I have been busting ice out of the cow’s troughs with a sledge hammer so they have water to drink about every hour during these Texas winter days and bringing 5 gallon buckets and gallons of water for the chickens and rabbits, also every hour or so - depending on the temps.
Not this year! I finally got tank heaters for the cows, a couple heated poultry waterers and heated bottles for my rabbits. Praise God! Them having continual fresh water is such a blessing.
All the cows are in the barn eating on some hay, the chickens don’t want to come out of their coop but I’m sure they’ll venture out later and the rabbits are happy to have the cold, hay and water - they actually love the cold, unlike me and the chickens - ha!

Y’all be safe, stay home and spend some time in praise and worship to our Savior on this frozen Sunday ♥️

Sing to the Lord, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.”

We welcomed a beautiful new bull calf to the farm on New Year’s morning. He and his mom, Flower, gave us quite the scare and a wild start to the new year. I went out as usual to do animal chores but immediately noticed Flower down, in active labor. I opened one chicken coop, still watching as I went to open 2 and 3 - took me 2 minutes tops. Flower never moved so I headed out to the other side of the pasture in a hurry. The closer I got, I knew I needed to call my help out, husband and daughter. Flower was still down and not moving, the calf was still partially inside, feet only. He wasn’t moving or breathing well. While I pulled him, husband got Flower up and moving. She cleaned the calf a few times but he couldn’t stand so she gave up on her baby, however, we did not. It took several hours of getting him up and holding him to strengthen his legs. Also had to make a quick run to the feed store for colostrum and milk replacer, just in case. We separated him off into the barn since the herd had not accepted him and by 5:45am this morning he was getting up on his own, previous late night check he was still only getting to a downward dog position - needing help getting his head and chest off the ground. Major improvement!! He was also hungry so as I was leaving to get a bottle, he ran after me which is another great sign. Flower has a pinched nerve in her back legs but that’s not stopping her from eating and moving about with the herd throughout the pasture. We were finally able to get her into the barn with her baby this afternoon and closed them up so hopefully she will re-bond and allow him to nurse. God is always right here through every moment and we praise Him for saving their lives.
Welcome our newest calf, Arden, to the farm and enjoy some of the pictures we’ve taken so far.

Yesterday was bunny grooming day. It was so windy outside so we brought them in to trim nails and comb them out.
These pictures are all of my big boy, Grayson (the sweetest of them all!). He really liked getting to explore the house a little and took a nice break on the cat scratch post before going back out to his apartment.

We traded our Ruby Ribeye for a new Brangus heifer today. Her previous owner named her Chula and we think it is perfect. We will miss Ruby but we choose not to breed back our heifers to their father so she had to go. We have one more 8 month old heifer that needs a new home, if anyone is interested or knows someone that is. Welcome to the farm, sweet Chula!

Enjoying this gorgeous sunset tonight with a light but comfortable breeze, listening to the birds chirping, praying and trying to get this cat to love me. Mo still won’t let me get too close but he’s very thankful I feed him once, sometimes twice a day.
