Thanks to Farmstead Veterinary Service PC for starting off spring right! Spring shots and dentals for half of the crew this morning.
Moana and Moon Shadow will have their appointment at a later date.

The ponies are happy as clams down in their paddock, so there is where they'll stay with their heated water tank and ample hay. (There's no such thing as "diet" when the wind chill is below zero).
They got a mash delivery this morning via sled when it was breakfast time, and I've yet to have a horse turn their nose up at warm, sloppy beet pulp. Penny also gets a bit of soaked alfalfa pellets, as we suspect she's battling ulcers and the mineral content of alfalfa helps soothe the belly.

Note to self... Shovel the gate open first...

There hadn't been one vehicle down our road since before midnight last night, if I had to guess, so I let the Clydes mosey their own way up to the barn for some warm mash and "plow" a trail for me to follow so I wasn't fighting so hard for my life trudging through a foot of snow in coveralls.

We're used to sub zero cold this time of year. We're used to snow (albeit, not a foot of it in one go). But were definitely NOT used to getting it all at the same time.

The snow is moving in, and the snow pack is thick on their backs already. The tanks have heaters (that are working so well the water is steaming in this cold air) and they've got plenty of hay. They're all happier, and more importantly, they'll all drink better, being outside.

Mashes are soaking in the warm kitchen for their breakfast, and we'll bring everyone in for a once over in the morning.

Stay safe, friends! ❄️🌬️🌨️

When it's 74° in November, EVERYBODY gets to enjoy it!
Moana got some free range time to graze in the yard while stalls were being cleaned this afternoon.
She's recovering from an abscess that blew both out of the middle of the frog and the heel bulb, so she's getting a little extra attention until that heals up. (Not that she doesn't deserve it every day). For as much as she loves to be a retired feral creature, she sure melts when attention is given... And I will always love that about her ❤️

I've been wanting to bury the power line that runs from the garage to the barn since we moved in 13 years ago. We knew it was an accident waiting to happen, but it was functioning fine and it just kept getting pushed to the back burner. Unfortunately, it finally took a devastating hit.
Nobody was hurt, no equipment was damaged, we just didn't have power in the barn until we could get repairs coordinated. We're fortunate it happened in the cooler weather and before daylight savings time, as the big doors allowed enough daylight in for us to do what we needed to do on the daily.
We've worked with Levi Farms on and off over the years, but the level of integrity they handled this with was above and beyond any and all expectations! The line is now buried (which brought it up to the current electrical code) and everything is repaired and we're up and running again!
We can't recommend the work they do enough! If you're in need of work done, please, call them first!
