A cold-hardy how-do-you-do! 🍃

Parsley’s still going strong—one of the last herbs in the garden that hasn’t even flinched at the frost! So tough that “crisp” is literally in its name (Petroselinum crispum 😉).
Second-generation crop from our own saved seed, mother plants overwintering like champs to keep the cycle rolling. Small-scale farming at its finest! 🌱

We're almost there, only 4 weeks left until we start gaining daylight again!

🌱 Indoor growing keeps the garden going through Midwest winters. With unpredictable fall weather—warm one day, freezing the next—it’s time to find space for everything under the grow lights.

- Pots moved indoors to south-facing windows and full-spectrum LEDs (18/6 light cycle)
- Cuttings taken for propagation: Common lavender, English lavender, roses, and hyssop; all taking root nicely (and the house smells lovely ☺️)
- Seeds saved, sorted, dried and stored for next season
- Humidity & mold at bay with careful moisture control
- Pests managed via daily leaf checks and neem oil

What are you doing to extend the season?

🌸 Late Season Bloomers Leading the Way! 🌼

Even as frost whispers its arrival, our Cosmos, Calendula, and Rudbeckias refuse to fade! Still bursting with color and life here on the farm, they will likely bloom up until the first frost.
These tough beauties are proof that the best blooms often save their grand finale for last—nature’s reminder that not everything is on time and even late bloomers can bring us so much life, so many ideas, and creation. But anyone who blooms at all, ever, is very lucky.

Frost and potentially a freeze is possible both Thursday and Friday mornings this week. Bring in sensitive plants because this is likely the end of the growing season for most.

Today's update on fall foliage!

Rotational grazing at its finest.

We got busy for a couple days and the cows grazed lower than we normally do. But farming needs to work with our schedule- not against it. Just like we believe our practices should work with nature- Silvopasture, no-till planting and maintaining living roots, and no herbicide or fertilizer.

Regrowth may be stunted on that 1-acre paddock after such an intense grazing. But we’ll monitor it and skip it on our next rotation through if it hasn’t recovered.
