🐖 2026 Hog Shares Are Officially Closed! 🐖

Thank you to everyone who reserved a half or whole hog and for choosing to support our family farm. We are humbled by your trust and grateful for the opportunity to provide your families with high-quality, pasture-raised pork.

We can’t wait to raise these pigs well and help fill freezers this fall!

From our family to yours, thank you for supporting local agriculture and making it possible for small farms like ours to continue doing what we love. ❤️

As the farm expands, so does the land—and the chores that come with it.

Here’s Ben putting our “new-to-us” heavy-duty mower to work on some of the bigger ground we’re now maintaining.

More land definitely means more to do… but it also comes with a few perks like this one. Who says chores can’t come with a little upgrade?

One of the questions we hear from time to time is:

“Why are your eggs so much harder to crack than the ones from the grocery store?”

The answer is pretty simple: our hens spend their days outdoors doing what chickens were designed to do—scratching, foraging, soaking up sunshine, and enjoying free access to a balanced diet with plenty of calcium.

Just like people, chickens need vitamin D to properly utilize calcium. Sunshine helps hens produce vitamin D, which supports strong eggshell formation. Combined with a nutrient-rich diet and plenty of exercise, that often results in eggs with noticeably stronger shells than many people are used to.

In fact, the shell itself is made up of about 95% calcium carbonate, and each egg requires a surprising amount of calcium to produce. A laying hen uses roughly 2 grams of calcium for every single egg she lays!

So if you’ve ever needed a little extra effort to crack one of our eggs, now you know why. 😊

Strong shells are just one small sign of healthy, happy hens doing what chickens do best.

Bringing this back again…

🐖 Big news from Fenstermaker Family Farm — we’re expanding again! 🐖

This year, we are planning to offer pasture-raised hogs and are currently looking to gauge interest from anyone interested in purchasing a ½ or whole hog.

As always, the pigs will be raised right here on our farm where you’ll be welcome to come visit and see how they’re cared for. They’ll spend their time ranging on pasture, enjoying walnuts, apples, pears, and other natural goodies they find around the farm, along with a non-GMO hog feed.

We will NOT be processing them ourselves. The hogs will go to a local state-regulated butcher for processing, similar to how many local beef farmers operate. You would:
• Reserve your ½ or whole hog with us
• Choose how you want your pork cuts processed and packaged
• Pick up your order directly from the butcher

We are finalizing details now and are simply trying to gauge interest at this point. Right now, the only information we need from you is whether you may be interested, and we will be in contact with further details as plans are finalized.

If you think you’d be interested in farm-raised pork this year, please reach out to us directly! 🐷

you’ve been waiting on today’s farm update… well… today’s farm update is that Mom got distracted. 🤣

The original plan was simple:

✔ Make space for the fridge in the new kitchen overflow area.

The actual result:

✔ Made space for the fridge.
✔ Moved the office.
✔ Reorganized the former office.
✔ Rearranged furniture.
✔ Created several new organizational systems.
✔ Did not patch and repaint an entire room.
✔ Did not remove the chair rail.
✔ Did not start three additional renovation projects.
✔ Successfully moved several heavy items using methods that would not be approved by OSHA, common sense, or my husband.

In my defense, this was all done in the name of creating a more functional home, office, and farm business workspace.

ADHD said we were making room for a fridge.
ADHD also said, “While we’re here…”

Have no fear though—the important farm things still got done!

🐔 Round 1 and Round 2 broilers are out on pasture, fed and watered.
🥚 Eggs were collected.
🦃 Brooder turkeys and broilers are doing great.
🐱 The cats spent the day enjoying the sunshine.
🐕 Luna spent the day strategically staying out of the way because she was fairly certain she was one poorly timed nap away from being recruited to help move furniture.

The garden is also patiently waiting on the rain the weatherman promised us.

So while there may not be an exciting farm update today, progress was made… just not necessarily on the list I started with. 😂

Grounded in faith, cultivating ethically, healing with nature… and occasionally getting distracted by household organization projects.

This has been a very “behind-the-scenes at Fenstermaker Family Farm” update for your enjoyment 😄

Well, one of our regular egg customers had the audacity to go out of town, which means we’ve got a couple dozen farm-fresh eggs looking for a new home! 🥚🐔

If you’d like to claim them, send us a message soon before they’re gone. The ladies have been working hard, and these extras won’t stick around for long!

Farm update: Things are getting a little crowded around here… and a whole lot louder. 😆

It’s been a busy start to the week as we prepare for our busiest season of the year!

First, the turkey poults arrived. Then another batch of broiler chicks showed up. The feed bills are growing, the waterers need filled again (and again), and somehow every chick thinks we’re running an all-you-can-eat buffet.

For those keeping track at home, we’re now well over:
🐔 150 laying hens
🐓 180+ broilers
🦃 40+ turkeys

At this point, the birds officially outnumber the humans by a wide margin, and we’re pretty sure they’re plotting something.

We also sent out pork share information to everyone interested in our pasture-raised pork this season. If you’ve been waiting for details, check your messages and email! Responses are due by June 19.

As always, we’re grateful for your support as we raise healthy food, chase escaped poultry, haul feed, and attempt to keep up with the ever-growing population here at Fenstermaker Family Farm.

Now if you’ll excuse us, we hear peeping… which usually means somebody needs something. 😂

Our first round of broilers are officially over 3 weeks old and have made their way out to pasture! 🌱🐓

For the next 5 weeks, they’ll be moved to fresh grass every single day — giving them access to sunshine, bugs, fresh air, and plenty of room to grow. Over the next few weeks we’ll watch them continue filling in their feathers and growing into healthy pasture-raised birds.

Now… if you live anywhere near us, you already know the sunshine part has been a little questionable lately because WOW has there been a lot of rain. 🌧️😂 But the chicks are settling in well and enjoying their new setup between the storms.

Before long, the pasture will look like we’re growing chicken tractors out there 🤣 but for now, we’re enjoying the simplicity of only having one tractor to move each day.

This is one of our favorite parts of raising chickens — watching them transition from tiny brooder chicks to confident pasture birds enjoying life the way chickens were meant to. ❤️

This weekend was a big one for our family. ❤️

Our second oldest officially walked across the stage and graduated high school. And honestly…we’re still trying to figure out how that happened so fast.

When we started this farm journey back in 2018, she was already becoming her own person with her own interests, plans, and dreams. She may not have fully embraced “farm life” or been the kid out chasing chickens around the yard, but she’s been part of this adventure from the very beginning.

She’s watched the dreams, chaos, growth, setbacks, exhausting days, and rewarding moments unfold right alongside us — and many times right in the middle of it all. From processing days and cleaning coops to dirty boots, summer heat, and long hours, she’s been there helping us build this life, even if farming itself wasn’t always her passion.

Now this fall she’ll head off to college and start an exciting new chapter of her own.

We thank God for the time we’ve had to help raise her, for the work He’s doing in her life, and for the woman she’s growing into. As parents, there’s something incredibly humbling about watching your children begin stepping into adulthood and becoming who they were created to be.

We are incredibly proud of her and excited to see what God has in store for her next. ❤️

Today we pause to remember.

Memorial Day isn’t just about cookouts, long weekends, or the unofficial start of summer — it’s about honoring the brave men and women who gave everything for our freedom.

Here on the farm, freedom looks like open fields, kids playing outside, family dinners, and the ability to build a life we love. None of that exists without the sacrifice of those who served and never made it home.

As we spend time with family this weekend, we’re especially grateful for the heroes and the families carrying their memory forward every single day.

From all of us at Fenstermaker Family Farm — thank you, and we remember. 🇺🇸
