September is recognized as Craft Malt Month, a time to celebrate the farmers, maltsters, and brewers who work together to create distinctive beers rooted in place.

At Peaceful Side Brewery, we make a point of incorporating locally and regionally grown grains into many of our recipes. Choosing craft malt not only supports independent farmers and regional agriculture, it also brings unique character and depth of flavor to the beers we brew. Just as locally grown ingredients can shape a great meal, craft malt helps express the terroir and agricultural heritage of a beer.

If you'd like to taste the difference for yourself, here are a few beers currently available in our taproom featuring craft malt:

• First Release Part 2 – Dry-Hopped Foeder Saison featuring regionally grown wheat

• Enzo – Italian Pilsner featuring barley grown in Tennessee

• Return to Reason – American Brown Ale featuring regionally grown & roasted barley

Happy International Beer Day! 🍻

While everyone else is celebrating with a pint in hand, I’m currently making the ultimate sacrifice and fruiting another batch of our insanely popular Piña Colada Sparkler, One For Each Hand.

It’s tough work. Someone has to make sure all that pineapple and coconut actually make it into the tank. I’m basically taking one for the team over here.

Since I’ve heroically volunteered for this burden, you should do your part too: swing by the taproom and check out our brand-new Farm Road Pale Ale, brewed with local hops from The Hopyard in Alcoa. Fresh, local, and packed with the kind of character you only get when the hops don’t have to travel across the country to get here.

You drink the beer, I’ll keep making it. Seems fair.
