Im home for a few days and checked the eggs from last week's set. So far all the chicken eggs are looking great! Which means Im now offering some hatching eggs!

Unfortunately, as I expected, many of the goose eggs were duds. But will continue to monitor as we go. Much of the issues may be from eggs getting too cold before being collected.
This EXACT dozen is ready to go in someone's incubator, right now! Collection dates and breeds are always written on each egg at the time of collection. I'll set eggs up to 2weeks old, but these are from 3/23-3/25 so only a few days old at the time of posting.
In this dozen:
4 Black Jersey Giants
2 Light Brahma
6 Buff Brahma

Other dozens will be ready to go here and there, worth asking if you dont see anything posted though, I may just not have had a second to post yet!

PM me to claim this dozen, local pick up ONLY in Mason/Cable, WI.

Ive been cleared to start lifting again, nerve pain is finally gone, just some residual muscle pains. Ive been back home for a few days getting some stuff cleaned up, making sure birds and sheep are doing ok, and just hanging out as a family for the first time in a long while. Im still not back home fully, but will be soon.

Incubators came in the house the other night and got cleaned and set up. Its still too cold at night for my heater to adequately keep up in the hatchery, so we'll be starting the season inside. Today would have been start day, but with the weather the way it is I wasnt able to get back to my moms for her half of the eggs. So, tomorrow eggs will finally start! Im hoping we only have to have the incubators inside for at most 3 weeks, weather should be good enough then for them to go back in the hatchery.

Heres whats going in, but not necessarily what will come out, as always, I'll be making hatch day posts with whats hatched and ready for new 🏘️.

ALL UNSEXED UNLESS NOTED
Geese πŸͺΏ
β€’ Embden (very small quantity)
β€’ White Sebastopol (any goslings I have for "re🏠ing" will be males at first, then back to unsexed since Im keeping some females back to repopulate the flock)
β€’ Roman Tufted, auxiliary flock only
β€’ Pilgrim, both flocks (any goslings I have for "re🏠ing" will be males at first, Im keeping back some females for our flocks. Then we'll see what we have each hatch and go from there, this will be the only breed that will be sexed all season)
β€’ American Buff, both flocks

Ducks πŸ¦†
β€’ Ancona

Chickens πŸ“
β€’ Silverrudd (very small quantity, BBS)
β€’ Multi gen Olive Eggers
β€’ Dark Brahma (very, very small quantity possibly, we're keeping a lot back this year to grow the flock)
β€’ Cuckoo Marans (very small quantity)

If interested, for pick up in 3 weeks, I can set Light Brahma, Buff Brahma, and/or Black Jersey Giant. Will be for sure setting those 3 breeds next week though.

Each week will be a little different, and no guarantees on anything for sure hatching, especially early season like this since we dont know what the fertility rate is yet. Im anticipating offering some hatching eggs starting within 2-3 weeks

We're local pick up only in Mason, WI. I dont ship, sorry.

And pay no mind to the destroyed environment, we've been stalled on the house rebuild since I was down for so long with the back injury. Getting back to that as soon as I get some strength back.

03/09/2026

Here's what's left of the hens we've got from when we went through our breeding pens last fall:
3 Black Jersey Giant 2025 hens
2 Black Jersey Giant 2024-2023 hens
3 Light Brahma 2025 hens
6 Light Brahma 2024-2022 hens

We also have a few roosters left to go with the hens:
1 Light Brahma 2025
4 Black Jersey Giant 2025
(Jerseys lost most or part of their giant combs over winter when we got that really bad week.)

All are starting to lay again for the season, but were moved to a new coop today (so they arent part of the current breeding pens), so they may stop for a while. Older hens laid very well last season and should lay well for several more yet. Our birds generally dont start really slowing down until 5+. These ladies are our "culls", but that doesnt mean they're bad birds. They just arent meeting the qualities we want in our breeding flocks. They would be great additions to mixed layer flocks or pet flocks. All are friendly, do well foraging, and do really well during the winters.

We cull for things such as:
Too small
Beak too long/short
Feet too white, not yellow
Combs too big
Waddles too long or too short
Dull eyes
Patchy feathering or issues with feathers
Wrong patterning/colours
Wrong shank colour
Bad tail angles
Bad leg feathering
Too flat of a forehead/beak
And,
Aggression to humans is an immediate hard cull, Ill never sell a bird thats known to be human aggressive.

That doesnt mean these hens/roosters have all or most of these things wrong with them. Most only have 1 major flaw, such as white feet on the jerseys or too large of combs on the brahmas. None of these qualities (except the human aggression) make for bad birds though. We just needed to do a heavy cull of the "worst" of the bunch to get our breeder flocks down to 10 or fewer birds each since we're working more towards SOP now that we have much of our cold hardiness and thriftiness down in our stock.

And its mud season, as many of you may be aware. So sorry for the kinda dirty birds, its inevitable right now, especially with the white ones.

I'll be in Superior/Duluth on March 16th, can meet up. Otherwise these birds are located in Cable, WI

These are some of the turkeys we hatched last season and had left at the end of the season. 1 tom will be staying here, 1 tom and a hen will potentially be going to a lady in a month or so, but 3 hens are for sure still πŸ‘€ for a new 🏠 or 🏘️

They havent laid yet, but should be starting soon. They are a cross of Narragansett and Bourbon Red. Have been friendly with us and other larger birds, I dont generally recommend trusting around smaller or timid birds until theyve been fully socialized as turkeys can be very aggressive to smaller birds.

Ill be in superior/duluth on March 16th and can meet up.

We also have a few chicken hens left, i think light brahma and black jersey giant. We'll be going out and moving them from the breeding coops soon here and will know for sure whats left.

These are all at the auxiliary farm in Cable, WI

This pretty Jersey lady was sitting up in the roosts when I was out collecting eggs.
Her comb is a bit large for my liking, but shes overall a pretty solid bird. The light spotting she has on her feathers are just muddy spots from everything melting.

Who else has geese that roost? πŸ˜‚

Went to collect eggs this morning and this gander decided it would be a better idea to climb the wall than to run out the door with the rest of the flock. Guess I startled him.

We've got 3 goose eggs now, 2 American Buff and 1 Pilgrim! Wonder how many we'll have to set in about 2 weeks πŸ€”

No matter how many nest boxes you provide, theres always the ones who want to lay in the garbage pile, hay, trash can, rafter, or a hole in a barn wall.

In good news though, the Dark Brahmas are laying, I found 2 frozen eggs in the hole this hen was crawling in. Im not sure how many we'll have, we will be keeping many back to grow out, but we will have some!
