Endangered breed egg giveaway, how cool is this
The Crèvecoeur, whose name translates to “broken heart”, are considered to be the oldest French chicken breeds. Developed in Normandy, documentation of their existence has been traced back as far as the twelfth century.
Legend has it that when the plague decimated a small town in rural France, the only living things left were the Crèvecoeur, while all the other chickens died. Their population slowly began to drop in the 20th century, taking a massive hit when German soldiers invaded Normandy and used the birds as a source of food. After World War II, they were recognized by the Livestock Conservancy as critically endangered, only bumping up to the watch list in recent years.
We have been working on our own line of Crèvecoeur here on our small family farm over the past several years. We haven’t sold a single order of hatching eggs yet and just recently decided that they are ready to share with others.
Like, comment, and share this post and we will pick a random lucky enthusiast, that wants to give this breed a try, and send them out a free dozen of Crèvecoeur hatching eggs. We will be picking the winner on Sunday April 5, 2026.
