We have made the difficult decision to offer *Soldier MTN JR Ranger to a new herd.

Ranger is a 2023 ADGA registered American Alpine buck with a pedigree backed by beautiful, productive dairy animals. We have been very pleased with what Ranger has contributed to our breeding program, and we are now ready to give another herd the opportunity to put these genetics to work.

DOB: 4/7/2023

His dam, Soldier MTN SS Terracotta 6*M, brings a strong maternal line, and his pedigree includes Soldier MTN Wampum Opal 5*M. His sire is *Soldier MTN Jaeger Ringmaster B.

One of the things I especially love about Ranger is seeing the consistency in the animals behind him. His full sister and daughters give us a glimpse of the genetics he has the potential to pass forward.

Ranger would be a great opportunity for someone looking to add established Soldier Mountain genetics to their Alpine breeding program.

🐐🌿 Breeding season doesn’t start when you turn the buck in with the does. The preparation starts NOW for February kids!

Here at Gilmore Acres, I’m already looking ahead to the next generation of Alpines. ❤️ Healthy kids and successful kiddings begin with making sure both our does AND bucks are ready before breeding day arrives.

Over the next several weeks, I’m focusing on:

🐐 Body condition on does and bucks
🌾 Quality nutrition and getting any thin does gaining
🥣 Flushing only the does that will benefit from it
✂️ Trimming feet and checking overall soundness
🔬 Checking parasite loads instead of automatically deworming
🌿 Making sure loose minerals are available
☀️ Keeping our bucks cool and healthy before rut
📝 Evaluating each doe and choosing the buck that best complements her
📅 Planning breeding dates and keeping good records

With a show herd, breeding isn’t simply about producing kids. I’m looking at each doe’s strengths and weaknesses, her mammary system, feet and legs, production, genetics, show evaluations and the traits I want to improve in the next generation.

One of my biggest priorities is also watching my heavier-milking does. A doe can still be putting a lot in the milk pail while quietly losing condition, so I want my hands ON them instead of relying on how they look from across the barn.

There is something exciting about sitting down with pedigrees, looking at each doe and buck, and imagining what those pairings might produce next spring. 🖤🐐

What a fun show, and I’m especially excited about these two!

🥈 Harmody Beau Titan
Reserve Champion Buck in Jake Bradford’s ring

Titan is a yearling American Alpine buck, and I love the strength behind his pedigree. He is sired by Redwood Hills Klein Beau, with SG Hoach’s CC Kazaa Klein behind him. His dam is GCH Harmody HVV Atara’s Zamara 9*M, a daughter of GCH Harmody M Viella’s Victor. There is a lot of proven Harmody and Redwood Hills genetics packed into this young buck, and I’m excited to see what he continues to do.

🥈 Gilmore Acres Revival Tia
Reserve Junior Doe in both Kelly Martin’s and Ashley Burton’s rings!

This one is extra special because Tia carries so much of our own Gilmore Acres breeding. ❤️

Tia is sired by Soldier-Mtn Torin Mr Revival, a son of Noble-Springs NSB Torin and Soldier-Mtn Cosmic Hallelujah 4*M. Her dam is Gilmore Acres Patriot’s Reba, who goes back to Autumn-Acres Rainmaker Patriot and our own Gilmore Acres AR15 Legacy. Seeing generations of breeding decisions come together and then watching those animals be recognized in the show ring is incredibly rewarding.

I’m so thankful for an amazing husband who supports this crazy goat life of mine and is headed down the road with me to the Mid Summer open dairy goat Show in Martinsville, Indiana! 🐐🏆

There’s just something special about having your best friend beside you for the early mornings, long drives, loading and unloading, show ring nerves, and all the memories made along the way.

☀️🐐 HOT WEATHER DAIRY GOAT TIPS 🐐☀️

These hot summer days aren’t just uncomfortable for us. Our dairy goats feel the heat too, and lactating does especially need a little extra attention when temperatures climb.

Here are a few things we focus on at Gilmore Acres during hot weather:

💧 WATER, WATER, WATER
Fresh, clean water is always important, but even more so in the heat. Lactating does need plenty of water to support milk production. Check buckets and troughs several times throughout the day and keep them clean.

🧂 KEEP MINERALS AVAILABLE
Make sure goats have access to a quality loose mineral. Salt helps encourage water consumption, which is especially important during hot weather.

🌳 PROVIDE SHADE + AIRFLOW
Goats need somewhere to escape direct sun. Good ventilation in the barn is important too. Fans can make a huge difference, but make sure cords are safely out of reach of curious goats!

🌾 DON’T FORGET THE FORAGE
Heat can decrease appetite. Good quality forage should still be the foundation of their diet. We like to make sure hay is available during the cooler parts of the day when they may be more interested in eating.

🥣 TIME YOUR GRAIN
Instead of feeding a large grain meal during the hottest part of the day, we prefer feeding during the cooler morning and evening hours.

🥛 WATCH YOUR MILKERS
A drop in milk production can sometimes be one of the first things you notice when a doe isn’t handling the heat well. Pay attention to changes in production, appetite, attitude and rumen activity.

👀 KNOW YOUR GOATS
Heavy panting, excessive drooling, weakness, decreased eating or a goat that just isn’t acting like herself deserves attention. Knowing what is normal for each goat makes it much easier to spot when something isn’t right.

And one of my favorite farm reminders…

🐐 Goats are really good at telling us something is wrong. We just have to slow down long enough to notice.

Summer management isn’t about doing one magical thing. It’s water, nutrition, shade, airflow and keeping a close eye on the herd every single day. ❤️

🐐 Today we are prepping for our first buck show of the season!

I honestly never thought I would be the person loading up the bucks and taking them to shows. 😂 But after showing them last year, I discovered a whole new passion for it.

There is something exciting about watching them grow, develop, and then seeing how they line up against the other Alpine bucks in the ring.

This year, we are hoping to take them to two or three shows, learn along the way, and see how they compare. No matter what happens in the ring, I am excited to spend another season doing what I love with these boys. 🖤🐐

We are also looking forward to breeding season and seeing what these bucks produce. There is always so much excitement and anticipation in planning those pairings, then waiting to meet the kids next spring. I cannot wait to see what they bring to the next generation here at Gilmore Acres. 🌱🐐

🐐 Transcervical AI Clinic at Gilmore Acres 🐐

I’m excited to share that Gilmore Acres will be hosting a hands-on Transcervical Artificial Insemination Clinic with Chazney Keller of Pemberley Pine Acres!

This clinic is designed for goat owners who want to understand the entire breeding process, not just watch someone else do it. Chazney will walk us through the equipment, medications, setup protocol, and the proper technique used to breed a doe.

You will learn:

✨ What should be included in your AI kit
✨ How to use each piece of equipment
✨ The protocol and medications needed to prepare your doe
✨ Hands-on instruction for breeding your doe correctly

Clinic Options:

🐐 $100 to attend, learn, and participate in the clinic

🐐 $150 to attend and have up to three does bred
Additional goats are $20 each

We are planning this clinic for Saturday, September 19 at Gilmore Acres.

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn directly from someone experienced while gaining the confidence to use these skills in your own herd.

I have more baby buck goats than I can reasonably handle right now… truly. Morning chores before work are getting to be a bit much, so I am highly motivated to move some kids along quickly. 🐐

We have several high quality buck kids available from excellent genetics, priced from $250-$450 depending on the kid.

We also have a few kids available out of finished champions, which will be priced higher accordingly.

At this time, I will not be able to get individual pictures of every kid, but I am happy to answer questions, discuss pedigrees, and help match you with the right kid for your herd.

And yes… discounts available for multiples. 😉
