We spent today in emergency mode as tomorrow's just recently announced forecast of cold, wind and rain ( snow for some it seems ) forced us to spend a large part of the day covering up as best we could our most frost sensitive plants that have already made their way into our field. In 17 years of farming I have never experienced this situation. Hopefully our efforts to keep the wind and cold off of our tomatoes, peppers, beans, squash and potatoes will prove worthwhile. It was all done in order to potentially save our season from yet another climatic disaster. Pictured here is the longest row cover I have ever cut and put over our already transplanted tomatoes. Several more were cut and put over 6 more plots today. It was a bitch for sure and diverted us from other essential and time critical work. Does anyone out there still believe that climate chaos is some sort of Chinese hoax? If so, then I would dare say that they are probably not farmers and that's the kindest remark I can make with regards to their beliefs. Hopefully we will get through this relatively unscathed.

Our 2026 CSA began yesterday and members received lots of freshly harvested organic greens in each of their shares. We are working every day now in order to ensure ( as best we can ) a nice supply of produce grown in the soil over the next several months for all of those folks who support us.

Early April in Mason and the garlic in this plot is growing more each day now. We have begun planting out the field for yet another growing season. The 3 tunnels are pretty much full now and we should start passing out CSA shares in 3-4 weeks. We hope to be able to have another productive year at Hungry Bear Farm :-)

Tomorrow I plan on transplanting these trays of lettuce and kale out into one of our high tunnels. The season is beginning once again. 👨‍🌾

This year we'll be offering salsa made from our own tomatoes, peppers and onions to all of our CSA members and others who support us. It was made by the Western MA Food Processing Center out in Greenfield, MA just a few weeks ago and I just picked it up today.

Our farms newest addition is this structure that we plan to use as a propagation house that will help us start some early frost sensitive trays of crops starting next year. My super worker Sam and I have spent hours recently hurrying to get this job done before colder weather sets in.

We are now offering anyone that wishes to join our 2026 full season CSA at the price we have offered it at the past 2 seasons before 11/30/25, after which the cost will increase. Pay in full before 11/30/25 by sending us a check or by using the PayPal option on our website ( www.hungrybearfarm.com ) and lock in the lower rate for next year. As always, we thank those folks that support our USDA and ROP certified organic farm :-)

Today I harvested some of the biggest heads of broccoli I've ever grown! Everyone in our CSA will get a good amount this Tuesday 😜
