Great Oak Farm

Great Oak Farm Our USDA certified organic produce can also be found at area restaurants and food retailers. We also grow microgreens all year long!

Great Oak Farm is a proud producer-member of Bayfield Foods, a cooperative CSA of over 20 local producers food serving the greater south shore of Lake Superior. At Great Oak Farm we grow about 14 acres of certified USDA organic produce. Despite the short growing season here in the Northwoods, we generally have produce available all year long. An old fashioned, in-ground root cellar helps us store

lots of field crops like carrots, beets, and cabbage through the winter. We have 6 hoop houses that help us get a jump on the season, where we grow warm loving crops during the summer like tomatoes and cucumbers, as well as spinach and hardy greens through the winter.

Exciting news to share, friends:

The transition of microgreen production to Suri Fina Alpaca Farm in Washburn is almost complete!

We loaded them up with another round of microgreen trays, lights, racks, and even our big greenhouse heater today so they can expand transplant and field crop production too.

They are already cranking out flats and flats of great micros, and are even dialing in some new varieties.

We're wishing Abby and the Suri Fina crew a great growing season ahead!

Wow! What a storm! We've plowed out three times in the last 2 days! ❄️

Somewhere buried under all that snow is a hoophouse. It was totally cleared off yesterday!

This fall, we have been saving up the squash with cosmetic damage/ little dings/spots, and managed to get somewhere in the neighborhood of 800 # worth saved up for donation to The BRICK Ministries !

While temps were still above freezing, we loaded up the truck and dropped it off on Wednesday. A pallet jack and their new lift gate sure made things easy!

We're grateful that they can get all of this squash that would otherwise go to waste out into our community! ❤️

Last call for fall veggie boxes!

Delivery is on Thursday this week. If you would like to order one let us know by the end of the day today. Thanks friends!

In celebration of our FINAL fall growing season, we've got an exiting offer just in time for your Thanksgiving holiday meals!

Check out the flyer below for all the nitty gritty, or read on for the details.

******I love local food! When can I get my box?******

These are ONE TIME boxes, and will be delivered to 3 convenient pickup locations here in the Chequamegon Bay area on Thursday, November 17th.

*******What's in the box?***************************

Choose from 2 different sized boxes to fit your budget and your table. Get the smaller box for more immediate use or stock up and SAVE on some fantastic organic veggies grown right here at Great Oak Farm! Check out the box contents in the flyer below.

*************How do I order?**************************

We've got 2 super easy ways!

1. Just venmo your order and payment to us by scanning the QR code on the picture, and let us know in the notes the box size you would like, the number of boxes, and where you'd like to pick it up.

-OR-

2. Email us and tell us the info (box size, number, and pickup location) then stick a check in the mail.

*************How do I get my boxes? *****************

On the 17th, just stop by your pickup location after 2 pm and no later than 7 pm (6:30 is better for the Bayfield Rec Center, as they close promptly at 7!) to get your box.

A HUGE shout out to the generous folks at Chequamegon Food Co-op, South Shore Brewery Taphouse, and Bayfield Rec. Center for hosting the pickup locations!

As luck would have it, November 17th is trivia night at the South Shore Brewery Taphouse, so grab your boxes and stick around for a fun evening in Washburn. It's also turkey pickup day at the Chequamegon Food Co-op, so if you're picking up in Ashland, you can get your turkey AND your veggies too!

******How soon do I need to place the order?*********

In order to make sure we have time to get them all packed up, please make sure to have your order placed and paid for by Tuesday November 15th.

Feel free to share this with your friends - we'd love your help in getting the word out!

Thanks so much for eating locally, everyone!

The last pallet bins of storage root crops - radishes beets, and carrots - are out of the field, washed, and tucked away in the root cellar for winter. It's hard to describe how good that feels!

The carrots in particular took a big hit this season thanks to the droughty conditions all summer. Usually, we head into winter with 10,000 #+ of carrots. This season, we harvested only about a thousand pounds. They are smaller in size as well, but still sweet and crunchy.

That's farming sometimes: do your best, buckle up, and hang on for the ride.

We sure have appreciated this beautiful fall harvest weather. It's nice to be warm enough to feel your fingers at the end of the day! But now that the crops are in...
