Goats evolved to browse.
They did not evolve to stand in a dry lot eating hay all day, and they aren’t horses designed to spend their day standing in a pasture grazing grass.

Given the opportunity, goats want to browse. They’ll reach for leaves, brush, vines, twigs, shrubs and woody plants, often choosing vegetation several feet off the ground before bothering with the grass beneath their feet.

And this picture pretty much sums it up. Why eat something at ground level when you can stand on your back legs, brace yourself against a tree, stretch every inch of your body and personally select the very best leaves from the top? 😂

This is one of my favorite things about taking the herd out.
They get to move, climb, explore and browse the way goats naturally do.
Apparently, though, the best leaves are ALWAYS the ones that require maximum effort to reach. 🤣

Where's the beef?

Since moving to New York and having enough land to grow more of our own food, my husband and I have been much more focused on supporting small businesses and buying the best meat we can.

We've raise our own organic, GMO-free-fed meat birds.
We raise our own meat rabbits.
We've already found an amazing source of pasture-raised, antibiotic-free pork thanks to Ryan Hand and are going to be bringing in some grass-fed and grass-finished beef that has been raised on an organic farm following regenerative agriculture.

When I saw the claim that the United States was going to import as much as 300,000 metric tons of beef at a reduced cost, I decided to do my own research. I went digging through multiple credible sources, looking at the facts, the companies involved, the money and the timing.

This is what I found, and here's what I see.

💲 Before anybody celebrates Trump for riding to the rescue with cheaper imported beef, look at the history.
Let's face it, Trump doesn't do
*anything* that isn't self-serving.

Follow the money.

Let's start here:

Pilgrim's Pride, which is owned by Brazilian meat giant JBS, contributed $5 MILLION to Trump's 2025 inaugural committee.

5 MILLION DOLLARS — the largest single disclosed contribution to his second inauguration.

Remember that.

Because JBS PROFITS ON BOTH ENDS OF THIS.

Hmmm 🤔 His biggest campaign contributor profiting off America, could it be? 🤦

JBS is a massive player in Brazilian beef. One of the biggest.

JBS is ALSO one of the four giant meatpackers dominating beef processing here in the United States.

There's only four. JBS is the biggest.

Then there's JBS co-owner Joesley Batista, who has developed significant access to Trump.

Batista met with Trump in the Oval Office on August 20 and discussed lowering the cost of bringing Brazilian beef into the United States, arguing that more Brazilian beef could lower American beef prices.

The 👏very next day👏, Trump announced his plan to ease beef tariffs and increase imports — not the next week, the next day!

Now add China to the story.

China has tightened how much Brazilian beef it will take under its normal tariff, giving Brazil a need to find other buyers. Brazil has a massive amount of beef sitting homeless.

And suddenly the United States opens the door to as much as 300,000 additional metric tons of imported lean beef trimmings, while Trump tells Americans he's doing it to" lower our grocery bills" 🤣.

Keep in mind, these are beef trimmings. Not steaks, not roasts, not even complete ground beef, but fatty trimmings that must be mixed with USA-produced ground beef before it can be packaged and sold.

Maybe the $5 million contribution is irrelevant. 🙂‍↔️

Maybe Batista's access to Trump is irrelevant.🙂‍↔️

Maybe their reported Oval Office discussion immediately before Trump's announcement is irrelevant.🙂‍↔️

Maybe it's all one big coincidence.

HELL NO IT'S NOT.

JBS will benefit COMING AND GOING.

On one end, its Brazilian beef interests gain greater access to the American market.

On the other, JBS is already one of the four companies dominating American beef processing, along with Tyson, Cargill and National Beef.

So, do you really think this is going to bring down the cost of ground beef?

It won't. It can't.

The other half of the trimmings needed to make ground beef are coming from USA meat producers and are subject to USA prices.

If processors can buy beef cheaper, there's no guarantee the savings get passed along to consumers. It's more for them to pocket.

So show me the numbers.

Show me what this beef costs coming into America. Show me what happens to wholesale prices. Then show me what happens to the price of hamburger at the grocery store.

If the cost going INTO the system drops substantially while the price coming OUT barely moves, somebody kept the difference.

These facts absolutely deserve scrutiny:

💲 ➜ $5 MILLION contributed by a JBS-controlled company
💲 ➜ A JBS owner with access to Trump
💲 ➜ An Oval Office conversation about Brazilian beef
💲 ➜ A favorable policy announcement THE VERY NEXT DAY
💲 ➜ JBS positioned on BOTH ENDS of the beef supply chain

This is 🐂 💩, not just beef trimmings.

Meanwhile, American cattle producers get more foreign competition and American consumers get a promise of cheaper hamburger.

A hell of a collection of coincidences or corruption?

I'll believe the cheaper-beef promise when I see the price at the meat counter actually come down.

Until then, follow the money.

Especially when the same damn company has a get rich seat at both ends of the table.

Buddy is the first “Nubian” buck I purchased.

It’s in quotes because some of Buddy’s offspring look textbook Nubian, while others look somewhat mixed 🤷

Buddy was found at an auction by someone else, from whom I later purchased two Nubian does. Buddy was given to me; the man who had him needed to “get rid of” him fast 🤔

Buddy was in horrible condition. Horrible. 😔

His toes were so severely overgrown they had curled over the tops of his hooves.

He was severely underweight.

His coat was deplorable.

He was droopy and lethargic from malnutrition.

Yet despite an obvious history of neglect, he had an amazing personality.

After vet clearance, I put a lot of TLC into Buddy and wow, did it show. He looks and acts great now.

He knows his name. He knows — and follows — commands, and even during rut, when he’s dripping with urine 🤦, he is still gentle and friendly.

Buddy isn’t great breeding stock. His features are a bit wonky. Regardless, he will live an amazing life here until the end of his days.

Any animal that endured that much neglect and still manages to always wear a smile deserves it. And yes, he smiles 😁
