Working Gardens We are a sustainable nursery and specialize in native woodlands, spring ephemerals and shade plants. No chemicals and we use organic methods.

Open since 2007
I post events for my sales but other times are by appointment. Even 15 min notice works for me. A small nursery featuring 100+ native perennial and woodlands plants. We use no pesticides and only organic methods. All plants are field grown on property. We have 100-200 varieties with 80-90% being native and Ohio native is a focus. Typically i put 75-100 varieties on the sales floor each year. I also supply the Stark Parks Native plant sale each spring. See the Photo section of my page for photos of native and non native offerings. I can also offer large mature plants bare root and wholesale. Consultations are available. We now do everything by appointment. You can preorder for pickup as well. I'll have lists posted in early spring and my website will have info on the plants (coming soon)
In the pre Covid times Nursery Sales were weekends starting late April through mid May with Hours: Friday 10am-7pm and Saturday 10am-4pm.

A 50% U.S. tariff on a range of Canadian goods is creating new challenges for one of North American horticulture’s most interconnected supply chains.

Following the breakdown of U.S.-Canada negotiations on Aug. 22, the United States imposed a 50% tariff under Section 338 on products including live orchids, fresh-cut orchids and other flowers, dormant bulbs, unrooted cuttings and slips, and other propagative plant material. The affected horticultural imports represent an estimated $158 million in annual trade, according to AmericanHort.

The effects extend beyond the border crossing. Canadian growers who rely on U.S. customers are suddenly faced with a dramatically higher cost, while U.S. importers, wholesalers and garden centers must decide how much of that increase they can absorb and how much must be passed along to consumers.

recipe for cookies!!

Cookies made from pawpaws taste great right out of the oven, but they’re even better on the second and third days from the commingling of the fruit and nut flavors.

This is the Blue Winged Scoliid Wasp which hunts grubs to lay it's eggs on. I have seen it beat it's wings in loose grass to "elevator" down through it. I finally got some video of it entering the ground/mulch. I have had these show up in the ground while digging potatoes so i know they pe*****te it at least 6 inches. They will target Japanese Beetles which is a great adaptation.
