Hey there!
I am proud to present to you this article that was featured in the recent Fall/Holiday issue of The Local Scoop! A magazine that showcases the many adventures, talents, and people of this lovely area.
I'll tell you what: I am so grateful for the experience I've had thus far with Mush Love. Who knew that whimsically inoculating some logs with family a few years ago would lead to a modest farm teeming with wonderful experiences, curiosities, community, growth (food!), and countless examples of love?
I've hosted groups of children here at the farm with hopes of imparting a love of fungi and the great outdoors. I've gingerly walked elderly visitors through the forest to show them the wonderful sight of a shiitake mushroom fruiting from a log. I've participated in numerous farmers markets and festivals across our beautiful state. I've had the privilege of being part of the burgeoning Farmers and Fishermen Cooperative that will serve this community for many years to come. I was even invited by the Department of Forestry this year to showcase my growing methods and present the idea of incorporating fungi into forestry services across the state.
And now, a locally adored magazine has written a thoughtful and lovely article about my adventures on the farm thus far.
Wow. Just wow.
I do not say this to brag. I say it to encourage.
Do not let the throes of life oppress you. They will come, and they will pass. Get up. Get out. Let's continue building our communities by showcasing the uniqueness each of us brings. I can't make a meal from mushrooms alone, so I need the vegetables, grains, and meats from the neighbors down the street. If we're all involved, there will be plenty to go around. This I assure you.
We all have something of value to contribute, and some of us do it without even realizing it. You don't have to be a farmer. Even a simple hello can make someone's day in a world where community seems to be fading at times. If you don't know where to start, give me a call, stop by the farm, and we'll go from there.
Whether you take the time to read this or not, I just wanted to say thank you. Really.
What I do would not be possible without the connections I have formed with the many members of this community. The love and support I feel are very real and practically ineffable. I also like to remind myself that none of this would take place without the countless efforts of the people who call this place home, and for that I am deeply grateful.
With that, I encourage every one of you to step outside the world of convenience and comfort and help shape some aspect of our community into something we can all be proud to be part of.
