3 years ago our founders partnered with some friends and got our sister company, Contrast Coffee up and running in Iron River, MI! Contrast has enabled Mission Arabica to continue staying in business by eliminating the majority of our admin costs, giving us the opportunity to donate more profits to the English school scholarships for students in Laos. Thank you for supporting both Contrast and Mission Arabica and creating a much greater impact than we could possibly do on our own! Happy Anniversary Contrast!!! ❤️

Exactly three years ago, Contrast Coffee opened the doors to its first coffee shop.

Many told us we were crazy... we just said, "you're probably right", but kept pushing forward. 🙂

While the expansion to new towns has been exciting, the thing we continually come back to is the simple idea of impact.

While Contrast exists to serve fantastic coffee and provide phenomenal service, that is only the "What" component of what we do.

IMPACT is the "Why" we do what we do.

It started as impacting farmers lives in developing countries by purchasing their coffee, but as these shops have opened, that impact has expanded into so much more locally across the U.P.

From the 40+ team members now on staff, to the numerous local suppliers and contractors we rely on, and especially YOU - the local community that comes in the door every day. It's awesome to see how a little coffee company can help improve so many lives.

I don't know what these next three years have in store, but I look forward to sharing them together with you. So thank you again and we look forward to serving you again soon! 🥳

All that said, I would love to hear your story though. What is your favorite Contrast experience / barista / memory / etc?

Authorities have warned survivors of last week's dam collapse in Laos that floodwaters could have dislodged and moved unexploded landmines or bombs.

From some Laos friends (I'm currently trying to find out if there is a way to donate to help monetarily):
Dear friends, Please be thinking of the Lao people as so many lives are affected by this. These people don’t have insurance. They don’t have savings accounts. All they have is their house and rice fields which are now most likely gone. Not only this one part of the country is being effected by the flood at this time of the year, but several provinces through out the country have been effected as well. This specific situation has been announced to be the National Disaster!

So thankful for the opportunity to support the livelihood of students in Laos! The creation of Contrast Coffee has made the dream even more possible by eliminating a ton of administrative burden making it possible to provide both excellent coffee to our customers and scholarships to so many students! Thank you to all who support us whether through Mission Arabica or Contrast!

Did you know Contrast Coffee is the specialty coffee child of its parent company, Mission Arabica? Co-founders Adam, Chris, and Gabe began their coffee journey as a way to support the people of the third world country of Laos. Mission Arabica’s ultimate long-term goal is to help establish specialty coffee farms in Laos, giving the locals a more sustainable source of income. While working toward that goal, they wanted to make a difference in the short term. So they began supporting an English language school run by mutual friends already working in Laos. Last year the company was able to provide 17 scholarships to English students in Laos. As we move into 2018, we’re excited to reach closer towards that ultimate goal, and to fund more students in the meantime. #906

Students in Laos are able to gain both practical training and life giving relationships because of you! We can't thank you enough for joining this journey with us! Let's increase this number even more in 2018! Let us know if you know any church or non-profit organization that would like to !

We love good coffee, but we love when good coffee is doing good even more. Our new Ethiopian is sourced from a 3rd generation family owned business that began when the family matriarch, Muluembet Emiru was awarded land after she had become Africa's first female pilot in 1934.

Nowadays the company strengthens its community by providing employment opportunities with a staff workforce that's over 70% women, educational opportunties, and healthcare for employees. It was also first to partner with Grounds for Health, to implement a successful cervical cancer screening program within the coffee growing communities.

Aside from all that, its produces one fine cup of coffee that just happens to be certified organic. We'll raise our mugs to that ☕️👊
