Good morning! The Broody hen was unable to hatch any of the fertilized eggs, I think she actually broke the viable ones. 🤷🏻‍♀️. We found out that we do have our own rooster now, so Louis is going to have some competition.

All in all I’m happy with the outcome. I like options in weight, smaller female birds make the best b**r can chicken, larger males can easily make three meals. This round seemed to have a lot of girls, they grew wonderfully and still hefty, but males are those big roasters I love. Let’s do an experiment next season and order one batch of all males instead of straight run and see what happens. 💕. Down on the Polyface farm, Joel’s birds are all 4 pounds, and that’s his standard and price point. And they are delicious. Mine are always 5 pounds and up, I like the keep them 8 pounds or less with the occasional 9 pounder showing up. I’m always a bigger is better type, but if they were 4 pounds, feed is less so cost would
Be, too. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I had a really just flawless system for raising and processing broilers at our old place. Out at the new farm, we had to learn to stage ICB totes and get our sea legs with a bit of a bumpy ride. Let’s throw in a family emergency ‼️ for good measure. I did not really advertise we would have them for sale other than my regulars, I needed to test the waters first. They will make sure to let me know the standard of excellence has been met! As always, pastured and organic fed. No soy, no corn is my way with scratch and peck feed to start, then new country organic pastured broiler feed. I did notice the wild greenery in the pasture was very well received at the new place, they really went after it. Let’s do this Bobby Joe Acres💕 Pryce Pastured Poultry💕. Update to follow! Processing day September 2026 is in the works!

More introductions of the new babies, they’ll go back in their tractor at night as their preference and eventually (takes a bit) will go into the big coop. It’s a process that works for me. The pecking order begins 😁

Time to introduce the new layers and move the tractor. We doubled the fencing, too. 😊

Bobby Joe Acres has challenges! But we’re making things work. I’m
Looking forward bringing the birds out to the pasture 💕

Jole Salatin “Far more drugs, by total volume, are used in livestock than in humans. You are what you eat, and if you eat what is doing drugs, then you’re doing second-hand drugs, just like second-hand smoke”. My chicks are never vaccinated or medicated. This is why I do what a do! I don’t want second-hand drugs.

Always moving forward and collaborating! I have some new, smaller coops in the works for my broilers. Let’s goooo!
