MAPLE WHISKEY PULLED CHICKEN!
This is one of our communications director's FAVORITE winter recipes, made in the slow-cooker with pasture-raised chicken from Ryan at Lilac Hedge Farm LLC, local maple syrup from Ron at Maynard Maple, local red onion from Elena and Karl at Small Farm in Stow, and local hot sauce to taste from Kamaal at Hillside Harvest. (Won't it be great to have all these local options at our locally sourced, community-owned grocery store?!)
TIPS:
- Use breast AND thighs for more flavor.
- Make it two days ahead. While it's pretty good out of the slow cooker, it's AMAZING after sitting in the fridge in a container for a couple days. And it freezes and reheats on the stove top very well.
- If your family can stand a little heat, definitely go with the full 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne. If not, a great hot sauce on the table can kick it up for those who like to live. :)
- Serve on a bulkie or on its own, with some thick-sliced Vermont cheddar from our friends at the Cabot Creamery Co-operative.
ENJOY!

Why have dozens of Co-op Owners pledged more than $250,000 to our Capital Campaign to open our community-owned grocery store? For Owner #998, Sue and John from Southborough, Massachusetts, it's about a grocery store that (FINALLY) sources LOCAL food!
"We believe locally produced food is better food - more sustainable, healthier, and fresher. We are excited to support the Assabet Co-op Market because it helps maintain the farmer as a central part of the community. With our member loan to make this store a reality, we'll help farmers continue contributing to the local economy and community well-being!"
Thanks, Sue and John! Owners, to find out more about our upcoming Capital Campaign and how YOU can make an interest-paying investment in your values and your Co-op, e-mail
