Cultivated Kids Society - May

We went for a hike this month in the chilly, rainy weather and let me tell you what happened…

There is something special about getting rained on during a season of drought. It’s like God knew these humans needed to be watered just like the forest surrounding us. Just pure magic from the heavens above ✨

The kids found waterfalls, rocks, sticks, flowers, sand, tadpoles, rivers, and so much more. How special it is to witness the wonder of the world through a child’s eyes.

Meet Walter.

A beef cross out of our Jersey cow. Her second calf. Such strong Mothering instincts.

Walter just needed some pep in his step, but once he got it, he’s been adventurous and so sweet. His dark brindle coloring catches your eye and his leaps of joy will make you melt.

Our first calf on the farm is a big deal and we are thankful for mentors who made this process as smooth as possible. My biggest piece of advice in farming is, “GET A MENTOR.” Pay them. Work for free. The confidence, skills, and self sufficiency gained is worth every dollar and sweat poured out.

Introducing ✨Gosie + Gertie✨

We hatched 2 Cotton Patch Geese from our sweet duo, Joe + Nellie.

CPG are a critically endangered, American landrace breed that are known for their temperament, smaller stature, and excellent parenting abilities. They are also great foragers, making them a sustainable goose to have on a small homestead.

These geese are autosexing and this darker color means these goslings are little ladies. 🎀

These ladies will head to new homes and we will reset the incubator for more opportunities for other families to own *in my opinion* one of the most enjoyable animal on the homestead.

Impact + Rest = Healing

We’ve been experimenting with silvopasture in some areas, and the girls aren’t sad about it right now.

There is a lot of work to be done to help this sad soil that we purchased a year and a half ago. It’s going to take time, but allowing brief impact with lots of rest is already regenerating the seed bank. We then focus on carbon/nitrogen inputs (usually in the form of 💩 + hay/wood chips).

It’s in drought conditions like now where you’ll see the biggest benefit of rich, fertile, alive soil. Things still grow with weeks of no rain. It’s a serious make or break.

We prioritize the sourcing of food from farmers who prioritize the life of soil. It’s the ultimate flex in an uncertain world.

*yes, these girls need to eat. that’s why they just got released on this spot of pasture*

Cultivated Kid’s Society - April 🐴

We went horseback riding this month! My children love to ride every week at Destiny Hill LLC and we just had to share it with our friends.

Miss Emily and Miss Jessica are so kind and patient and they did a wonderful job at making sure every kid experienced the wonder and awe of horses.

If you are looking for structured lessons or just a one time Summer camp, you need to reach out to or

Thanks again Emily + Jess!

Farmer Josh did a thing…

We love being home and a farm will also force that upon you. But I think we were homebodies before the farming so we meshed well from the start.

We bought this home 17 months ago and the first 15 months we spent retrofitting this outdoor space for our livestock and farming needs.

After hosting Food Club and now Kids Society, we realized we needed a little extra space if we were to grow at all.

So Farmer Josh did the math and we decided that our big “second year” project would be a deck. But not just any deck.

A helicopter landing pad that smoothly transitioned from our original carport meeting space. Humble beginnings my friends. Food Club and Kids Society would meet under our carport and those memories will never be lost.

Friends came over the other day to pick up some tomato plants and we estimated that we could park the truck and have a hot tub and still have room for dinner on this deck. Farmer Josh takes his assignments seriously.

Here’s a bonus I never even thought of! We now have a beautiful space to rest as a family that makes us feel like we’ve got a little slice of paradise away from the farm. This is our first non-farm project in years I cannot count. A tough decision too. We could use so many other farming “things” with this money spent, but it’s time we prioritize our family and our community that shows up over and over again.

Food Club and Kids Society sign ups are happening now. Come enjoy our upgraded space in person.

I will be happy to make you a cuppa to enjoy too!

Just another way we can honor the animals that we eat.

We raise them on the farm.
They take their last breath on the farm.
We cut and package all cuts of meat on the farm.

All of this is done with the highest respect to both the animal and consumer. High quality feed, movement through the forest, artful and timeless preserving of meats.

Food Club sign ups are available through April.

Holiday Market Schedule

We are doing something different this year and we will be in 2 places at once!

How could we pass up markets at 2 of our favorite locations?

We will down the road from the farm at on 12/6. You must check out the great environment here.

On 12/13, we will be back in Kernersville at the Holiday Market and German Christmas Market. We love attending both of these markets for many reasons. Between atmosphere, free goodies, Santa sightings, and quality of other vendors, these 2 markets are a must to add to your holiday stops. Good news is they are down the road from each other, so swing by both locations to experience it all!

Lastly, we will wrap up our market schedule with a private sip + shop at a home here in the Triad. We attended this last year, and it was so much fun! Fresh coffee, a handful of really cool vendors, a well-decorated home, and great laughter makes this event feel like a treat to attend.

The holidays are not for stressing about the perfect gift. That perfect gift hung on the cross. The holidays are about the giving and receiving of joy + light. Let us help you find that.
