We're excited to enter the newest chapter of Geers Farm Sawmill & Woodworking. Geers Farm has been the place to go for family fun for many years, especially in the fall with the pumpkin patch, donuts, zip line, and petting zoo. We have moved on from these festive fall activities and are currently producing a variety of custom wooden pieces including charcuterie boards, topographical lake and river maps, tables, mantles, bar tops, Halloween and Christmas lanterns and coasters.
In recent years, we've seen an increase in interest and appreciation nationwide for natural or live-edge furniture; this design maintains the natural edge and profile of the log in the piece or pieces of the furniture. While most commonly included in dining tables or coffee tables, natural or live-edge pieces are used in many other applications, such as end tables, headboards, computer tables, conference tables, shelves, benches, and countertops. Its natural beauty fits all home settings.
Northern Michigan is blessed with many natural resources including a great variety of hardwoods: hard and soft maple, cherry, white and red oak, white ash, walnut, beech, white and red pine and cedar. In addition, several variations of these species add even more striking beauty to wood including curly figures and black spalted lines caused by the early beginnings of decay. By utilizing 2 part epoxy to fill cavities, voids and cracks in the wood, unique beauty may be added to the piece.
We've shared this information with you to announce that Geers Farm (now Geers Farm Sawmill & Woodworking) is entering a new chapter in our operations. With the foresight of both Barnie and Carl, we have put together a combination of new equipment and capabilities that allows us to saw hardwood and softwood rough lumber, produce both live-edge materials for you to finish yourself or fully finished natural edge custom furniture. We have two bandsaw mills, a specialized slab mill that can mill up to 6' wide and 20' long slabs, a dedicated vacuum kiln (the only one in northern Michigan) that greatly reduces the drying time of slabs, two specialized slab flatteners capable of flattening up to 6' wide x 14' long, and a CNC router for creating unique wood products. We can mill, kiln dry, flatten, and finish your logs in your choice of finish.
We currently have an inventory including hundreds of natural live-edge slabs in walnut, oak, maple, cherry, and others for you to consider in your new custom dream table, mantle or furniture pieces. Additionally, we have both hardwood and softwood rough lumber.
