Winter can feel a little like survival mode.

The days are darker. The weather adds extra work. You bundle up, do the chores, and start again the next morning.

From the outside, it probably looks quiet here. The pumpkin patch is closed for the season, and we really don't post often in the winter.

But behind the scenes, there’s still a lot happening.

The dairy runs every single day. Animals are fed and milked. Equipment gets repaired. Seeds get ordered. Plans for the next growing season are taking shape.

Farming doesn’t stop in the winter — even when it feels like everything else does. Sometimes the quiet seasons are the ones where the most groundwork is being laid.

And spring is coming. With longer days, fields greening up, crops going in the ground, and a fresh season of growth ahead. We’re already getting ready.

🐄♻️ Nothing goes to waste on a dairy farm—now even milk permeate has a purpose!

Milk permeate is what’s left after milk is filtered for cheese and protein products. Instead of discarding it, new technology is turning it into ethanol and renewable energy.

This is just one example of how dairy continues to reduce its environmental footprint and move toward a more sustainable future.

Big kudos to Michigan Milk Producers Association—the milk cooperative we’re proud members of—for seeking out this forward-thinking solution.

🍂 Happy Thanksgiving from Dick Family Farm! 🎃
Today we pause to remember God’s goodness and give thanks for every blessing He’s poured out this season.

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations." - Psalm 100:4-5

As we look over the harvest, we’re reminded that every good and perfect gift comes from above and that God’s faithfulness continues from season to season.

We are truly grateful for our family, our community, and for each person who walked through our patch this year. 🍁

May your home be filled with peace, joy, and the goodness of the Lord this Thanksgiving.

Our Make & Take classes were a hit again this season! 🌾🖌️
Each workshop overflowed with color, laughter, and creativity — from crafting beautiful pumpkin fall arrangements to designing one-of-a-kind centerpieces, every class felt like pure fall magic. ✨
I wish I would have taken more pictures of all the beautiful creations! 📸

One of our favorite parts of pumpkin patch season? Field trips! 🍎

This year we welcomed so many awesome groups — from preschoolers to seniors — and loved seeing your excitement and curiosity on the farm. 🌽🐄
