This is one topic that isn’t politically divided. Both former President Biden, his Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, President Trump, and his Secretary of Agriculture Brook Rollins have voiced their support for overturning Prop12. Ohio’s states rights were crushed by California’s Prop12, in 2010 Ohio lead the Nation with the creation of Ohio’s Livestock Care Standards and an appointed board to oversee its existence. Approved by Ohio voters, made by producers, veterinarians, consumers and animal care specialists established 8 years prior to Prop12. Ohio pork producers remolded and built new approved housing for farrowing their pigs in Open Pen Gestation only to have their market access to sell to California denied in Prop12 for 4 square feet and little consideration given to the health and well being of the sow.

Everything is cleared of snow at the present time, will need a little touchup late today with the wind but ready to keep full of feed as the opportunity exists. It is cold, the 4 furnaces in the Nursery have run 10 to 10 1/2 hours each the last two days to keep pigs warm. The Finisher Barns have growing pigs and they are producing enough body heat that we have ventilation fans running even with today’s temperatures.

With a full house these little guys have no idea a storm is brewing on the outside. Feed Mill boys are working overtime and after delivery today we will have 5+ days of feed on hand for all the barns and plenty of propane.

It is a balmy 20 degrees outside but 82 degrees in the Nursery. Headed to low 30’s today but everyone in here is up and at it this morning.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Chores are done, new arrivials should be loaded at the sow farm and headed our way for the south side room to finish filling pens. Even though we all face trying times throughout the year we have so much to be Thankful for. Wishing all of you a Happy Thanksgiving with the hope of everyone preparing to enjoy this and the upcoming celebration of Christmas. Prayers for all who are struggling for whatever the reason, lifting you up so you can find a smile and Gratefulness in your heart.

Equal opportunity this morning. This is from the south room that I often neglect so letting these pigs get some face time. At the beginning of this video is a pen of “feedouts” that we pull out of pens. These pigs are more timid and end up at the bottom of the “pecking order” established every time you bring in new pigs to a pen. These timid pigs put together with other pigs like themselves will thrive being together. We will have about 50 of these pigs out of the 2400 and will keep these together when we move them to our finishers. In the finisher you will never notice the difference.

3 weeks in and half way home. Ready for take off, pans have been pulled for a week. These little pigs have consumed 7600 # of starter pellets and 39,000 # of ground feed since their arrival. Hopefully you can see the difference also.

Anthony in last field of corn working beside Casen.

Casen has mastered manure application and doing a tremendous job. Enjoying watching him finish emptying the last pit.

Full House. A little different view from the back of the room today. Lots of activity before daybreak, always fun and frolicking in the morning.

The 500 arrivals are up and enjoying breakfast this morning. They will be on the same pellets they were enjoying with mom for about 3 days. Then they will transition to the same formula of nutrition in ground feed. 1800 more will be joining us on Monday morning filling this room and the south room. Have a Great weekend!
