Luke 12:13-21 - The Parable of the Rich Fool

Levi's breaking down where we put our emphasis in life.

On our things or on our service.

So grateful that he came to the conclusion of a semi-normal retirement now! I was a little worried there for a couple years. 😉

We do a lot of rotational grazing with our flocks. There are so many benefits for the livestock, wildlife and plants it's hard for us to justify not doing it.

Rotational grazing can take a lot of time though because it may require putting up temporary wire to create or divide a field. Especially in the beginning of leasing a farm - when we are experimenting with paddock sizes and locations, learning where water is and isn't available, and finding the shade the sheep prefer - it takes a lot of temporary wire and time.

Right now, Levi is doing the experimenting at the solar site. The farms we lease pasture on we have the rotation pattern decided and settled into but there are still a few fields that have big stretches of temporary wire. It can't always be avoided.

This one is probably the worst because it goes straight down, across a small stream, and straight back up the other side. 🥵 All the while dodging raspberry and multi flora rose bushes.

But seeing the grass grow and thicken and the sheep able to graze longer into the year makes it worth it.

And no, we don't have gym memberships.....our life is a good workout 💪🏼🤣

Happy Tuesday, friends!

Someone asked last week if the solar site is very noisy. Aside from getting the sheep settled the first couple of days, it's really not.

The inverters can be loud when they turn on if you are near them. They sound like a drone which the sheep are used to. You can hear them as I finish talking and get closer to one.

But if you aren't within 50 yards of them, you can't hear them at all, so from outside the fence you can hardly hear them.

Happy Monday friends!

We like animals that prove they have a brain.... This ram.... Doesn't seem like there's much up there between the ears 🤷🏼‍♀️

A beginner explanation of the solar site.

We're still rotating sheep through pastures like we do at home but the paddocks are bigger and there's a lot more shade 😉

The importance of community❤️

We all go through difficult, stressful, hard or just busy seasons. Sometimes it's a few weeks, a month or can be years long.

Our most recent such season was lambing. We started barn lambing April 8th. Barn lambing had just barely started to slow down and the breeding flocks were beginning pasture lambing (bad planning on our part)! In the midst of this everything with the solar grazing project was beginning to start rolling and picking up steam.

We missed A LOT of church in April and May.

In the last two weeks things have slowed enough that we are back to getting to church on Sunday mornings. 🙌🏼

It's hard to describe how impactful the community in church can be until you aren't there on a regular basis.

A couple weeks into lambing both Levi and I were starting to feel very heavy. Not only were we physically exhausted, we were really starting to feel disconnected from our faith and Christ. Our spiritual cups were not being filled when we were on our own and busy.

Obviously, we weren't completely alone in this season. There were people around us and supporting us but we weren't being recentered on Jesus consistently.

Moral of the story - find the community and church that will fill your spiritual cup. We are meant to be in community with other people. We are not meant to walk through difficult seasons alone. Life is so much more enjoyable and peaceful when we are centered on God ; and your church plays a huge role in that.

If you're in a hard season, whether it's been a day or years long, we encourage you to find the community that will fill your spirit and bring you closer to Jesus.

What a beautiful day ❤️
