Hart' s Harvest

Hart' s Harvest We are a small family farm in Central Indiana. We grow nutrient-dense, garden-grown food that is good for us and the plant.

We also have flowers and plant starts. We grow organically, sustainably, and regeneratively.

Ginger!!! 🫚I LOVE cooking with ginger. So, of course I had to try to grow it here. Without a greenhouse or hoop house. 🙃

Ginger usually grows in the tropics. It likes it warm and humid. Sounds like an Indiana summer to me.

This year I grew just a 1/3 of a bed to see if it grow and produce. And it did!! It will be smaller since the summer is too short to grow it larger.

If you would some ginger, message me.

Next year, I am planning on a full bed! 🤞

Saffron is blooming!! 💜❤️💜

Here is one day harvest. I LOVE it when the bloom because it looks like a blanket of purple on the grown. And then I have to pick it all. 😒

The reason it is so expensive is because it is very manual labor that takes a lot of time.
First, pick all the flowers.
Second, separate the stigmas (the red threads). Or Little Farmer calls the “the Stigies.”
Third, the stigies (or stigmas) need to dry.
Lastly, weight them out and jar them up.

But I love saffron. 💜❤️💜 And I love growing it. 💜❤️💜 And it so good for you.

I am excited to bring saffron to my family (aka customers).
💜❤️💜

If you would like saffron for purchase, call or text me at (317) 474-1660. 💜❤️💜

Farm Stand Open!! 🎉

The farm stand is officially open.
Miss me at the farmer’s market? Come to the farm stand.
Need something mid-week? Come to the farm stand.

I will keep it restocked when the produce is ready.
And as always, I only use certified organic inputs, never any herbicides, pesticides, any other —icides; and non-GMO. I farm to make the soil and the environment better, but I also farm for human health and taste.
Do you think any grocery store cares how much molybdenum there is in their produce? But I do. Both plants and humans need it.
Grocery store picked too early for easy transport? Not here, produce is picked when it is ripe so it tastes better.

Have questions? Just ask!

I am so happy I finally have an official farm stand. 🎉🎉🎉

My favorite breakfast! Plain bagel (from , of course), toasted, cream cheese, and a pile of radish microgreens.

The slight spiciness from the radishes, the coolingness from the cream cheese, and the crunch from the toasted bagel, oh my goodness, so good!!!! The perfect combination.

Like everything we do, the microgreens are grown only using certified organic inputs. From soil to seeds to everything in between.

Now, I am off to eat breakfast.

See you Saturday from 9-12:30pm. Rain or shine.

New members of the family. Aren't they the cutest!!! I think they are even cutier than baby chicks (but don't tell the baby chicks that).

We should have duck eggs for sale this summer. But they will be farm pick up only. They are no longer allowed to be sold at markets. I blame the Indiana Chicken lobby (yup, it's real).

But until then, I am going to take a snuggle a duckling break.

Not a glamorous picture, but a very important one! 💦 And a very proud one! 💦

Without water, seeds do not sprout and plants can stop growing.

But a proud photo too. There is also one more timer not pictured here because it is being used right now. And while the small timer on the bottom I have owed for years, the two larger ones are new. Which means I am growing!!! And more beds, more plants, more yummy food!! Hoot! Hoot!

Meet our dog and friend, Lady Sansa.

We have recently lost our other dog, Magellan, so Lady Sansa is now lonely. So she is now almost always with me. In the paths. Walking with me. In the barn with me. Walking on the tarps (and poking holes. Grrrr). And even laying on freshly seeded beds. Double Grrr! I did not get a picture of that; too busy working.

Of course, I miss Magellan, but I am thankful for Sansa’s company. But… I am going to have to put string around the beds so she stays out of them. Haha.

Getting ready to plant potatoes for the summer! 🥔

But first, cutting them up and giving them time to scab over. Every potato pie should have a couple of eyes and that’s where a potato plant will grow from. How do you grow a potato? Plant a potato! Haha.

This variety is purple and, unlike other purple varieties, stays purple when cooked. It is called Magic Molly. It is one of the creamiest potatoes, even without adding any cream, milk, or butter. What is your favorite way to eat potatoes?
