I remember so vividly standing in the kitchen together in the first house we bought back in our early 20s and speaking of the life we are living now.

Back then, I was working as a child and youth case manager right out of college and having issues with my heart. A visit to the ER one day after working late to help raise money for a family who lost their son changed the way we thought about life and about food.

Once I was released back home, we stood in our kitchen and talked about changing our lifestyle and doing everything we could to improve our health. We spoke about having a farm one day, working together instead of apart, and growing + raising our food, so we could ensure it was safe and good for our bodies.

Last month, we processed of our first steer, and as we sat with our children at the table with our own farm-raised steaks and farm-grown asparagus, the sweet realization rang that 20 years later, through God's guidance, we had finally achieved that goal.

Back then, we thought we had to do it all, but as we have matured and lived the reality, we have come to know the blessing of community.

I want to take a moment to thank Bonnie and Larry Marcy of Heifer Heaven for being so kind and helpful to us throughout this journey with our first cattle. They have been the perfect picture of what it means to help your neighbor, and we couldn't be where we are today without them.

If you're considering this life, and your mind is reeling over all the details in the how, just begin, one step at a time, and rest in the promise that you are never alone. You are always divinely held by the Master Creator, and he has many angels to assist you along the way.

This weekend we celebrate the birth of our rock.

I may have been the flint and tinder that founded BMF and its humble beginnings, but once this guy right here made it his full time gig, he has helped take it beyond anything I could have ever conceived possible.

He means so many different things to so many different people, and many call on him for his wide array of gifts, but for us he's a rock steady husband and father.

He's the firm foundation we know is always there to help, to guide, and to love without condition. If there's a problem, yo he solves it. (Shameless 90s music reference 🤣)

He's selfless and kind, favoring truth and justice over fear and shadows. He uses the gifts God gave him to be of service in times of need without expecting anything in return, just because it's the right thing to do. He's a present friend, and a darn good one to have.

Jon Aaron Bray, we love you! Thank you for being all you are for us and for the world we are blessed to share.

💛 A NEW PASTURE HAS BEEN FOUND 💛

Our kunekune pigs have done a wonderful service to the regeneration of the land here at Blue Mountain Farm. Everywhere they have worked, the pasture has grown back extra green and with vigor. It has been a difficult decision, but we are now seeking new pastures for them. This is the beginning of that mission. More info, photo + vid in comments.
