Friday summer blackberry Play Day today

The farm has several areas of wild blackberries that we allow to grow as long as they don’t take over. For those coming to Play Day today bring a berry picking container. The plan is to have the hay rides drop those interested in picking berries off at several promising spots. We got quite a bit of rain last night so come prepared with the proper foot wear.

One of the fun things about this farm is the wild growing spearmint. Not sure if it was an herb planted by some bygone homesteader or a native plant that grew here, but it sure smells great when I run it over on the mower or pick it for some spearmint tea!

If you don’t pick it all, you’re welcome to pick some tomorrow while you’re at Play Day! The kids might enjoy chewing on a leaf! (If you’re not sure which plant it is, ask before putting it in your mouth!)

Week one of horse camp 2026 is done! We had a lovely group of kids and instructors this week!

Many of the camps are filled up, but we still have room next week for a couple Horsemanship 1 and Horsemanship 2 riders! You can book at our website, www.hiddenhillsfarm.com.

The weather has made planning difficult, but we think we are going to go ahead and host our regularly scheduled (but not posted as an event) Play Day tomorrow! Plan for muddy conditions—and maybe some new little piggies (Daisy is about to pop)! If the weather changes and we decide to cancel, we’ll post here on FB.

We are looking for a part time milkhand, in particular for Saturdays and Sundays!

The job involves milking the cows with a machine, cleaning the milking parlor, processing the milk, and cleaning the equipment. We usually milk around 10am each day, and the whole process takes about 4 hours/day right now. The start time can be somewhat flexible, and a few other farm chores/animal care can be added if desired and as needed.

Candidates must be reliable, trustworthy, comfortable handling large animals in a firm but kind way, able to carry heavy pails of milk, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and pay careful attention to cleanliness.

Renn and Jenna, two of our Junior Instructors, made it to IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association) dressage finals last weekend at St. Louis with their team, Dream Big Equestrian. These two have been riding together since they were pipsqueaks, making the ponies mind. It was so fun so watch them succeed, helping their team win 6th place overall out of 12 teams!
