Vitruvian Farms was founded by Shawn Kuhn, Craig Merten and Tommy Stauffer in June of 2010. Vitruvian Farms is an organic farm located in McFarland, less than 7 miles from the center of downtown Madison. As is the symbolism behind our name, our farm aims to follow three principles: Balance, Beauty and Proportionality. We strive to farm using all of these concepts and hope to instill them in others throughout our community. We are rooted on the basic ideas of community and sustainability. This begins with providing a great food source and continues with providing a place for the community to come together and be apart of something special. Farming is only the beginning of the amazing ideas and plans we have in the works for the future

Meet the newest member of the farm team...LUCA!

So far, in just over a week at the farm, this little guy has become our chief snuggler and head investigator of anything gross to be found on the ground. We're all completely smitten ❤

We've officially broken ground and construction is underway on The Kitchen at Vitruvian!

We're adding onto our existing farm building to create a commercial kitchen space and we'll also be building an awning to cover our patio. We're excited for all the opportunities the kitchen will offer our farm, from reducing food waste by being able to freeze or create products from produce seconds and surplus to bringing more delicious food to you all crafted from local products.

We'll have more exciting news to share as construction continues...so stay tuned!

Our 2026 CSA season has come to a close, and we couldn’t be more grateful for our incredible community! Community Supported Agriculture programs like ours connect people to their farmers, keep money in local economies, and reduce the environmental impact of transporting food from farm to consumer. 🌱

The success of our CSA wouldn’t have been possible without:

🥬 Our incredible team at Vitruvian who grew, packed, and delivered the fresh, organic produce in your boxes all season long.

🍅 Our partnering farmers who grow amazing produce. We bought in select produce from 7 different local farms to increase the diversity of produce in our CSA boxes since we grow a lot but not everything!

🍴 Our talented chefs and home cooks whose creativity inspired the creation of numerous seasonal dishes with with CSA produce.

🛒 You! Our amazing community of supporters who believed in us to bring you the highest-quality local food. We loved seeing you enjoy your boxes on social media and hearing about the delicious recipes you were making.

This doesn’t mean that work on the farm is done, however. We will continue to grow mushrooms, microgreens, and other veggies (like our winter carrots 🥕) all year long.

We appreciate you and hope that amidst the highway construction and upcoming Wisconsin winter, you’ll continue to support your local farmers. Together, we’re building a more sustainable food system that is better for our environment and our community. 🫶

The Store at Vitruvian is OPEN but, due to road construction, our driveway off Tower Road will be closed for the next two week. To visit the farm store, turn on our Hwy 51 driveway.

The farm store is open Tuesday-Sunday 9am-6pm at 2727 US Hwy 51 in McFarland.

Road construction can be tough on local businesses so we appreciate everyone who has continued to come out to support us!

October may be the month of ghosts and ghouls, but there’s nothing spooky about our October Featured Vendor, Madison Sourdough Company! 🎃🥖

Madison Sourdough (MSCo) is a Madison-based bakery and patisserie that bakes, mills flour, caters, and runs a café, all in the same place! Known for their delicious sourdough loaves (which take 36 hours to make!) and French-style pastries, MSCo sources 40% of their grain from Meadowlark Farm and Mill and the rest of their grain, milk, eggs, and butter from Wisconsin farmers. Deeply embedded in the local food system, you can find MSCo breads and pastries in their storefront, or in a variety of cafés, restaurants, and grocery stores across the Madison area. 🥐

We don't grow pumpkins on our farm, so if you're looking for some local, beautiful and unique pumpkins this fall season, go visit our friends at Pumpkin Paradise Farm just 5 minutes down the road from Vitruvian!

They are open Saturdays 9am-5pm and Sundays 10am-4pm through October at 3694 E Dyresom Rd in McFarland, just a 5 minute drive from our farm headed towards Stoughton if you're traveling from McFarland on Hwy 51.

Last (but not least) in our Meet Our Team series, we’re recognizing the team members whose work connects and supports our entire farm!

These team members employ creativity and problem-solving skills every day they’re on the job. From renovating greenhouses to installing our irrigation system to troubleshooting machinery, our Maintenance Lead, Josh, is hard at work keeping the farm in tip-top shape.

Marissa, as the Marketing and Operations Coordinator, leads the charge on our marketing efforts, as well as plans incredible events, like Farm Days at Vitruvian.

Kai, our Communications Team Member, shows off the exciting parts about the farm on our social media, and recognizes our crew and partners through our Featured Vendor and Meet Our Team series.

The behind-the-scenes work of these individuals enables our crew to do their best and our farm to thrive at its peak capacity!

With September comes the beginning of fall, as well as our September Featured Vendor, Lovefood!

Lovefood is an organic, family-run vegetable and herb farm based in Stoughton, WI (9.5 miles away from Vitruvian!). The Bachhuber family–Abby, David, and Soleia– grows roughly 70 different veggies and herbs, which they sell to their community via grocery stores, restaurants, farmers markets, and their own seasonal farm store and CSA. Their goal is to grow food with intention, and we think that definitely comes through in the flavors of the herbs we carry from them 🌿
