My Dad (Ted Finley) started the farm as a fully operational dairy farm. For about 20 years, my Dad milked cows twice a day to support his family. Then my Dad decided to get a job off the farm. It was at this time we started raising beef cattle. That summer my Dad gave me the check book and I visited the stock barn in Huntingdon and Paris pretty much weekly, with an occasional visit to Trenton for
their livestock sale. But the biggest purchase I made that summer was made after reading an AD in the Jackson Sun. I purchased 20 head of Beefmaster Cattle from another farmer who was getting out of the cattle business. A few years down the road I then pitched the idea of operating a Registered Cattle Herd and after some research we decided on Red Angus. My Dad and I drove up to Slaughters, KY and purchased the foundation to the herd we still have today. With Dad and I both working full-time jobs, we didn't maintain the records to keep our herd registered. I can promise you, my Dad was just as proud of those Red Angus Cattle whether they were registered or not. Recently my Dad passed away and now I've been given the opportunity to work this land and raise cattle with my boys. The farm will still be known as Finley Farms, but will operate the cattle side as KC Cattle. KC are the initials of my boys. The majority of the cattle we will be managing will be for my Mom, but my boys and I will operate some as well. We look forward to sharing our journey as we learn, grow and operate into the future. As we share pictures of changes or improvements we make, it is not about changing anything my Dad did. One of my Dad's requests was to leave this farm in better shape than he left it. So any potential upgrades or improvements are in his honor. My Dad had many names from my family - Dad, Granddaddy, Ted. We all love you - Michael, Heather, Kellen and Collins.
