Earlier this year we had a group of visitors to the farm, several of whom told me that rabies wasn’t even real. 👀

“It’s just some guy in the woods giving dogs antifreeze to make them sick…”

“I’ve never had a wild animal run up to me foaming at the mouth…”

Y’all. I just can’t.

The tin foil hat conspiracy theorists should stick to wondering about the moon landing… or literally anything else.

Specifically, ethylene glycol poisoning and rabies infection do not even present anywhere close to the same.

And rabies can present very differently in different species. Or even within the same species. There may not be any foaming at the mouth - there might be some fairly passive neurological signs or there could be extreme aggression, among a laundry list of other symptoms

The super cool thing about rabies is that you can prevent it with a vaccine …and that’s really the only way that you can deal with it and live to tell about it… otherwise it’s end game… and then the laboratory can inspect the brain to confirm cause of death and anyone that came in contact with the affected individual (any mammal) can go through super unpleasant treatment (because most humans aren’t vaccinated against rabies).

So the rule of thumb should be to vaccinate your pets - all of them. And if you’re concerned about your old kitty or your old dog receiving too many vaccines, you can always have your vet run titers.

Bottom line is just don’t be wilfully ignorant and neglectful… and stop embracing conspiracy theories that have absolutely no basis.

Vaccines work!

This rescue in Maryland is always going to the mattresses and doing everything they can for so many dogs.

We were asked by their shelter partner to intake the Ovcharkas because they are lost not guardian dogs by breed but generally wrecked for that sort of work due to irresponsible unethical breeders.

SG was able to take some of them. I’m not sure what happened to the rest of them but the bottom line is that we completely agree with this post and therefore that is why we are sharing it.

There are far too many people purchasing puppies directly from these unethical backyard breeders or from the unethical pet stores that sell unethically produced puppies that includes two different ones here in our home county of Guilford.

If this is how you are acquiring your family pet … well unapologetically you’re part of the problem because every time these unethical folks produce a puppy and someone buys it it just empties out the kennel and they breed more.

If you want to support rescue, click on the original post and go to their page … every dollar helps

As many of you know- keeping my mouth shut and my opinions to myself, is not an easy thing for me to do. So knowing exactly who the puppy mill breeder of all of the bulldogs and Ovcharkas (they were breeding doodles and Pomeranians as well) we rescued and not being able to speak on it publicly, has been very hard. But, now that those responsible have officially been charged (over 70 counts of animal cruelty charges to be exact) no longer will we remain silent.

Several weeks ago, the rescue coordinator at one of our partner shelters in southern Maryland reached out to us about a large number of animals that had come into their care after being seized from a local puppy mill situation. The dogs were living in deplorable conditions, many being kept in a building with no electricity or running water. Rotting floors, crates filled with f***s, dogs crammed into spaces far too small for them. Puppies being trampled into the ground, covered in their own excrement, as well as ringworm. I cant even tell you how many baths it took to remove the urine staining from several of these dogs. Sigh.

As you may remember, one of those dogs died tragically on the same day we picked him up from the shelter. We would go on to make multiple trips to their facility, saving multiple dogs each time. In total, we welcomed 22 dogs into our care from this situation, which was sadly only a fraction of the dogs saved, and it of course came at a great cost to our organization. We preach regularly at the importance of researching your breeders, and not buying these fad colored dogs who are bred solely for profit, with no care or concern about the lifelong problems they will have. In fact, we have dogs with skin issues, hearing impairments, vision impairments, and or course- some that simply cannot breathe.

PLEASE- stop supporting puppy mills and BYBs. These people stay in business because the public is funding them!! Also, if anyone wants to reach out to the Baltimore Ravens and ask them if they want to support a local rescue who saved a bunch of dogs from a puppy mill that one of their players financially supported, that would be solid.

Picture of the sweet baby who lost his life on the day of rescue, for tax. Gone but not forgotten. Today we are giving you 84 thousand voices. 💙

Wait what?!? Wool wins again!

🐑 SHEEP’S WOOL COULD HELP REPAIR DAMAGED BONES

What if a material often treated as agricultural waste could help the body rebuild damaged bone?

Scientists at King’s College London extracted keratin, a structural protein found in sheep’s wool, and turned it into membranes designed to act as bone-regeneration scaffolds. The material supported healthy bone-cell growth in laboratory tests and helped stimulate new bone formation when implanted into rats with skull defects that would not normally heal on their own.

Interestingly, collagen produced more bone overall, but the keratin-based material produced bone that was more organized, structurally secure, and had better-aligned fibers, making it more closely resemble healthy natural bone. The keratin membranes also remained stable during healing and integrated with surrounding tissue.

♻️ Because wool is renewable and can be discarded as an agricultural byproduct, researchers say it could eventually provide a more sustainable material for regenerative medicine. However, the research is still at the animal-testing stage.

🤔 Could sheep’s wool-derived keratin one day become a practical way to repair damaged bones in humans?
